So if anyone is interested, I just got thru my first 1000 miles with the 455 and it hovers right at 7 mpg. The power is just incredible off the line with 36" tires and 3.73 gears. The motor really shines in the 4500 rpm range...It will run up to about 70 in second gear, probably 120 in third, allthough I have had it currently only to about 100mph. I have had some heatin up issues, on the freeway when it was about 78 degrees at 75 mph.. it also pinged, so i need to adjust the timing I think. I get it running at 200 degrees with a 190 stat. It will stay there pretty much all the time, other than that situation the other day. The transmission seems to be doin ok. allthough it still whines when cold, so i need to get that cheap filter out of there. It does scratch the tires going into 2nd at wot, which is good I guess. anyhow those are my impressions, if anyone needs anymore info let me know.

7mpg, ouch. Have you had your speedo calibrated? Hard to get a proper mpg reading unless you have recalibrated the speedo for any gear/tire size changes.

It's prolly accurate if he's lightin up 37s with a 455.

Soo....What kind of RPM's is it doing at 100mph? What sort of ignition does it have? I would like to hear some specs on this engine, or is it posted elsewhere here? Real curious.

What size carb are you running? I have a rebuilt 455 with a 600 Holley and I get about more around 8. I think...;)

the top speed with this wagoneer has been at is 126 with the old built 401 in 2001... the unit is extremely stable because it has full width axles

I think i posted them some where.. it is long list, but i would guess easily 375 hp to rear wheels... as for the revs at 100mph i didnt happen to look  i am sure in 4k range maybe higher

I have had it currently only to about 100mph.
Ok so the DMPD number is (515) 283-9159.......HE HE JK.
Sounds like a 455 though. You've beat me, I've only had my 74 J-10 up to 91 MPH with 33's"
