Exhaust Gaskets-smooth side or metal side?

Re-Doing the exhaust gaskets on the driver's side to eliminate the exhaust leak. Did i put in the gaskets wrong? Stock manifold. Which side of the gasket goes against the engine block?

I've always been told shiny side to manifold. Smooth to block.
