Its not hard afaik. Pull the yoke, then the tail housing bolts off. The tail shaft can them come out if i recall correctly. Looking for a detailed teardown. i have one here somewhere. if I find it I will post it.

It is pretty much like Stuka said, except you don't have to pull the yoke until after it is off. Either way will work. Here is a good tear down. http://www.fullsizejeeps.com/jeeps/files/Misc-Pictures/D20BD.jpg

I would post the picture but it is pretty large.

i tried taking the five bolts off but it wouldn't budge. i think i'll try taking the yoke off first and see what happens. thanks for the picture of the teardown. smile.gif

You may need to tap the housing (or bang in some cases ;) ) with a hammer to break it loose.

Don't get me started with the hammer :D ! Just tap around it will start to come off. There is a thick fiber gasket that gets gummed up and stuck after time.

I printed that breakdown off in four sections and then taped it together and had it in my garage on the wall. I gave it to RB before he did his D20 rebuild. It helps a lot.

I bolted a come along to the yoke , hooked the other end to the 44 and cranked away 3 cranks and the tail housing popped right off. when you put it back togeather make sure that the preload on the thrust washers/spacers is correct otherwise you will get a wicked vibration and break your yoke again(I done lernt this the hard way)
