Drum Brake ?

My truck has the semi-floating Dana 60 on the rear. While doing the brakes the drums are held on by two large screws. These screws were frozen so I drilled the heads off and the drums came right off. My question is do these screws need to be reinstalled. My thinking is that these were insalled at the factory to keep the drum on the axle until the tire was installed. Being brakes though, I want to be sure these are not needed when I reassemble. Thanks
