Well I'll just cut right to the chase, here's the pictures/videos. Tires are expensive so I didn't do any huge burnouts but still got some smoke. I had my younger brother take them on a cheap digital camera so the videos aren't the greatest.

Times were a little slower than I was hoping for but were pretty consistent so I'm happy. My 1/8 times picked up but I was down on horsepower on the big end. I'll have to figure that out because it should trap higher than that. 2wd takes a little time getting used to, especially with the stock converter. You either bog or smoke the tires, nothing in between. I'm going to play with this setup some more and see what it can do before I make any more big changes.
The first run was crap, I was one of the first pairs of cars down the track (first race of the year) so it was pretty slick. Plus it was my first 2wd launch. Burned 1st gear, bumped to second hoping for more traction but no dice. Bumped up to 3rd and smoked the tires again. Shut down at half track because it was still smoking the tires and I was a little nervous.
After the third run they (the guy in the burnout box) told me I was leaking tranny fluid on the track. So I parked for about an hour looking for leaks. Turns out it was somebody else. The quadratrac running 2wd in E-drive lives another day! :) After that it was clear sailing for the rest of the day.

Cool, looks like fun. So when is the proper 2wd TH400 going in? With the 2wd trans set up for drag you ought to be a good bit faster, anything special you plan on for that, what stall torque converter? Figures that they thought you were the one leaking trans fluid, always point fingers at the old Jeep , I was once accused of leaking trans fluid after coming off the beach because there was a puddle of water under me, figures.

Top end of run, aerodynamics come in! These are about as aerodynamic as a brick. LOL Not bad for a 4500 lb car. :D

Thats Very COOOL
I bet they were saying,
Well here's something you don't see every day!!
I've been out to Stanton Motorplex Dragstrip a couple times.
That is awesome!

awesome! Make sure to modify your burnout process like we talked about in the other thread. Otherwise, you'll be rebuilding your trans ;)

This is a fun thread to follow. Always wondered if it could be done....

Wow! Who knew? The only time I can spin a tire is turning on a wet road. (gravel doesn't count, IMO)

I couldn't get it to shift to second during the burnout. It'd just redline in 1st and sit there. So I just did little burnouts in 1st gear all day. It's not like this transmission has to last for very long anyway.

I'll be swapping in a real TH400 sometime this summer. I dug out one of my spares a couple weeks ago, just have to get it to the transmission shop. I'll get a new converter at the same time, I'm thinking about a 3000 or 3500 stall since I want to run a bigger cam soon.
I'll swap the rear axle at the same time too since I've got the offset rear right now. Then since I'm swapping the axle I might as well inboard the springs and SUA so I can run caltrac bars and wider tires.
It runs ok for now and is fairly consistent so I'll run it as-is for a while unless something breaks. Once I have all the parts gathered up I'll swap everything over at one time to minimize down time.

4050 w/o driver. You're right about aerodynamics though, there's a lot of areas that need improvement. That should be about as big of a gain as anything.

Gotcha on the trans. You can read about what I'm talking of on Car Craft's website (search for Kilgore Transmission), they give some good info there (discusses how the sprag can tear up in the 1-2 shift in the burnout box). That'll help your next trans last at the strip. For the axle, if you're going to swap anyway, might consider going 4-link as you can REALLY tune the suspension for massive launches! I'll keep my stock d44 on mine, as it'll see mostly street use with the occassional track run. I'll be adding a posi and probably changing the gears to somewhere in the mid to high 3's. That way I can still run comfortably on the highway (4L60e should make it nice & fun) and still hit the strip with some respectable power.

Nice vid!
Hey, if I may offer a bit of advice from my 15+ years racing:
If you are going into or through the water box, very few treaded street tires gain anything from a trip into the water box & a burnout. Not only this, but the treads drag a lot of water out of the box that might mess up a slick-wearing car behind you during time trials or a test/tune night. The treads also trap water that may still be on your own tires at launch. Most street tires get more from a couple of simulated launches after driving around the water box.
I cannot make out your tires on the vid to make sure & it starts too late to see which way you are doing it, but this might be something to play with next time if it applies.

I was going to drive around the water box (like usual) but the stupid guy with the hose just watered EVERYTHING down so it was like one big burnout box. No way to get through without soaking the tires. So I figured I'd just smoke 'em up to get off as much water as I could. Hopefully next time they've got a different guy so the street tire guys can have dry tires. I'll bet that's part of my traction problem. My 60' times are identical to last year in 4wd, 2.2's.
