I am looking for ideas on two projects.
1 what / where is the best exterior Hi-Lift Jack mounting idea.
2 any way to get dents out of a front fender with minimal damage to paint. I cant aford to paint but need to get a dent out as much as possible. (thats what happens to me when I drive before coffee)

Almost every jeeper i know,, wether its CJ, YJ, SJ, whatever, mounts it on the front bumper. But not with a stock front bumper on SJ's, we need something that sticks out a bit.
Not sure on the front fender, I have wrinkled one of my front fenders pretty good by wheeling.

small rubber hammer from the backside is probably the safest bet, but it doesn't work very well on sharp cornered dents and such. If the dent is across a large surface without too much contour, you can probably work most of the dent out like that. Use a rubber block or similar with a non-scratchy cloth as a backing plate on the paint side to keep the flexing to a minimum.

The problem with mounting a Hi-lift outside is that the jacking pins rust up and then when you need it you must spend a ton of time getting it to work (if you can). Mine is mounted with a hi-lift jac-loc on an angle on the right rear of the cargo area, with the base down by the tailgate and the top coming up to the leading edge of the rt side rear window. The locking mount keeps the honest people honest and the jack secure even when getting airborne.

does the dent look like somebody lend on it? suction cups work really well. some body shops offer paint less dent removal.
i would go with jeepbob's idea for the hi-lift.

All their ideas on the dents is a good idea. I've got some dents of my own to knock out and fix but I dont have to worry about the paint. Going to try out my Grandpaw's old sheetmetal tools that I found and see how they work. Definately keep your high lift inside for the above reasons. My brand new one got wet when I changed out my body and I had to lube it up real good because of it.

Thanks for the input, I still want to get the jack out of the unit but am starting to reconsider. I Really want the space, dont want it blocking the window and dont want it to rust. I guess this defines having your cake and eating it too.
I started working on the dent very slowly. I but a piece of carpet on a foot long 2X4 to use as backing. I started taping/ banging on the inside with a rubber mallet but had little luck. I will soon pull the wheel for better access and try from there. I am even looking for a way to put my little hydrolic jack in there to push more consistantly.
I stoped to take some before pictures to record what I hope to be a sucess.
More to come
