Hello people, Is there any documentation like the Hayes type of manuals for my 71 Wagoneer?
If so what is it called and where can I get it?
The reason is that this 71 wag is my first 4wd, I want to learn about the vehicle and repair myself as I have a basic knowledge base in mechanics and I feel that if I have a dedicated manual it would help alot.
Thanks for your help smile.gif GT67Wagoneer
I may be wrong here but I've been gathering manuals for years now and have never seen nor heard of a 1970 or 1971 specific manual.
Seems that the 1969 "Service Manual J-Series Vehicles" is the last one and then the "Service Manual Supplement" printed in 1971 covers the 258/304/360 motors. There is no diff between the 69/70 rigs at all so that may explain no manual for 70?
It's a moot point because with the two it covers everything you need for a 71.
The 69 J-series manual shows up fairly often on ebay and the key here is make sure it's "SM-1042". It'll be in small print on the center/bottom of the front cover(print date on page one). The supplement is labeled "Supplement to SM-1042" at the bottom but it's only 3/8" thick or so compared to the main manual.
Yearly manuals did start again in 72 though and a 72 TSM (Technical Service Manual) should work just as well for you.

I have a 72 TSM that covers everything for the 71 FSJ's. Also have a 62-73 parts manual, so if ya need something let me know and I can scan it for ya. :D :D

Thanks again.
GT,
Your sig file says 'recond 258' but in your post you say the eng is pre-69?
There was no 258 in 69. It didn't arrive till 71. If it's an OHV motor and earlier than 71 it'd be a 232. Same motor really, the 258 is just a stroked 232.
I don't think any of the export to OZ FSJ's back then got the V8's so here's what yours could have come with.
Either the 232 or 258 motor depending on early or late built 71 Wag more likely the 258 though, D30 front axle/D44 rear, D20 t-case, T-14A 3 spd trans/T-18A 4 spd or TH400 auto trans. Stock axle gears would be 3.73 or optional 4.27's.
Look in the tech section of this site you find the eng build codes for the early 232/258 and the late 258's. It'll tell you what year the motor is out of. It'll tell you where to find them on the motor too. They're actually stamped into the block and not on a goofy tag on the valve cover as on the AMC V8's.
Have you checked out our sister site the ANZAC(OZ/NZ) FSJ site?

Ok thanks Joe, I better update my profile ;)
Cool I will have a look tomorrow, yes it has the 4.27s, I think it is a T15A though.
