Getting to the point where I am going to hang the rear dana 60 under the wag this week (hopefully the weather will cooperate). Decided I need to buy some rims as I don't really think I want to run the H1 rims I have laying around on this rig. Any ideas on what backspacing will work best? Will either be running 16 or 16.5 rims with a 35 or 36 x 12.5 tire. The factory rear wheel wells are gone. Only thing I am concerned with is hitting the frame or problems up front.

For 16 or 16.5, the most common is 4 to 4.25 inch back spacing. This will work fine for you.

I get so lost on backspacing. If I want my tires out as far as safely possible, what backspacing would I want on either 16x8s or 16x10s? I can get either.

i have one set of 16.5" rins with 4.25" BS and they stick out a litle more than i like. the other set of 16.5" rims that i have, have 4.75" BS which sit in a little more and still don't hit anything.

You might be able to find some 3.5" BS 16/16.5's, but generally 4 is the least that I have seen. And yes, less BS = sticks out more.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I google searched it a few times and it always confused me. I always just went with what's available.

I assume you are running full width axles versus stock width. What size tires? I am running 36's right now, but plan on going to 37 MTR's when I change

I'm running J20 axles in my J10. I had a set of 36/12.5/16.5 goodyear wrangler r/t II on there and they did not even come close to touching at full lock. I'll let you know how it works with a set of 35/15/16.5 TSLs.

I would stay away from 16.5 rims. allot of major tire manufactures have quit making 16.5 tires/rims. as far as know you can only get them from offroad specific tire manufactures

There are a LOT of manufacturers that make 16.5 tires. The only issue is sizes are limited. Normally to sizes common to a 3/4-1 ton truck (ie: tall and skinny). Or there are plenty for offroad specific tires.

My only problem with the 16.5's was getting USED tires. Nobody around here has sold a 16.5 in a couple years. That means no cheap used tires. I am slowly working my way around to 16's

A lot o fthe tire manufacturers have quit advertising their 16.5 stuff, but it is still there in most cases. You can buy bfg muds and at's in 16.5. I have 3 sets of goodyear hummer takeoffs that I plan to run through until I get bored and shoot up to 40's.

If you can't find used 16.5's your not looking in the right spots. I got the hummer takeoffs here for a little over $280 for a set of 4.
