I am planning on doing the disk conversion, but was thinking. Could a machine shop convert the 8 lug rotors into 6, or an even better question, are there any chevy 6 lug rotors that are the same size as the 8 lug rotors? Then I could use my exsisitng 6 lug rims and also have more backspacing options for this 14blt swap if I needed different bs. Thanks Dennis

if there is enough room for the bolt pattern an axle company or a good machine shop could do that, we have car axles changed at moser alot for street rod and race car axle swaps.

I know of 6 lug rear 14 bolt's, but not the full floater versions. Not sure if they are disc or drum though.

yes,it is possible. in a nutshell, you will need to mill the 14 bolt hub down so it fits thru the hole on the 6 lug wheel. this also means milling down the axlesahft flange and using allen head bolts to retain it. when i was considering doing this same thing,i was going to leave the shaft alone, wich meant that id have to pull it before pulling a wheel. not a big deal to me.

you will also have mill down the sither the backside of the hub,or the hole in the 6 lug rotor.

the thing that finally changed my mind into not fulling with it is the shape of the rear of the hub where the rotor will mount. youll find that it is not flat, and some of the holes will have to be thru the little protrusios on the back of the hub where the original studs pass thru. it is prolly not a big deal that its that way,but i just didnt like it. that and it prolly would have taken our machine shop friend 6 months to do the machinework for me,as the project was definately outside the real mof doing it at home with a drill and cut-off wheel ;)

unless you spent a crapload of $$ on 6 lug wheels, its prolly easier and maybe even cheaper in the long run to just get new 8 lug wheels, and convert the front to 8 lug.i was using cheap steel wheels anyway,so $80 for wheels is cheaper than what id spend if i paid a machine shop to do the work.

anyway,heres a link on pirate 4x4: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=421784#post421784

and here is the resulting discussion thread here: http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=009115#000000

I figured it would be a pain. But was just tossing aroumd ideas. I just hope the 14 blt fits! Ive heard the springs will have to be moved, then told no. Then only disk brakes will fit, then told only drums will fit 15" rims. I was also told that the 14blt diff would hit the gas tank. So until I get it home and start measuring, I wont know anything. It seems like several people have done this swap in wags and cheros, but no j trucks. Thanks

im am sure it will fit.with discs, you should have plenty of room for the spring perches to be moved out,and the 15" wheels will fit with discs on the single wheel pickup hubs with minor grinding(tho i guess dually or C&C hubs may be a different story). FSJeeper measured his axle on another thread, and there are lots of us running 15" wheels with discs on a 14 bolt.

sorry i couldnt be of more help on the j truck specifics :(
