Will the 343 bolt in place of the 360?

Yes. The 343 is the 360. The 360 was a stroked 343. Compression on the 343 is alot higher though(10.2:1) so you will either need to retard the timing to run cheap gas or will have to go with a premium grade gas.

4.08x3.28 vs. 4.08x3.44. same block/bolt pattern.
heyyyy... how feasible do you think chevy 454 pistons (4.25" bore) in an AMC block would be? bore spacing on the AMC block is 4.75". you'd get a 373 out of those 343s.

AMC changed the crank flange when they went from the Borg-Warner to the Torqueflite tranny in '72; since a 343 predates that change, the back of the crank would need to be modified to work with the Torqueflite.
