I swear to god I almost wish the Jeep had never been invented. In the beginning I had one CJ7. One became two and then one again after the divorce. One became two once more after a post divorce buy-back and then 3 after the purchase of a cherokee (baby version). Of course being the glutton for punishment that I am one day I wondered hmm, what's this FSJ I keep seeing. Baaaad move.

Now I have the above, plus 3 dayum J-trucks, a wagoneer I'm picking up in the morning in PA (yep, they'll be there and with a title to boot) and a bed from a M715 I'm picking up in Jersey tomorrow as well.

The bed is for Hogsnot. I decided to go the M715 knock-off route in my rebuild. Here he is the day I found him.

The way he looks now, except the motor/tranny/xfer case has been tossed.

And his new bed. No rust, no dents. Woo hoo.

I tried inserting the piccys and it seems to work but between creating the post and then posting the post it keeps going back to this. Feel free to fix. :)

Anyway, off to a good start I think. Can't wait to get back home with my goodies!

Ditto! One of the best FSJ names ever!

OK, ok.... I can't stand it! First thing I thought when I saw the name was that is a perfectly wizardly name for a perfectly muggle vehicle! That would be Arthur Weasley's jeep. :) I wonder what it's magical attributes would be?

So far it's been a magical ability to make currency disappear from my wallet at a frightening rate.

Oh wait, that's just an innate ability of all things Jeep.

Picked it up this morning. We're hauling it back in the bed of a pickup. We had to stand it on end then tip it into the bed on its side, pick the back end of it up and slide it in. Quite a treat that was, and then try to get the whole mess strapped down securely in a decidedly unsecure position. So far so good. We couldn't put it on the trailer because that was reserved for the 88 waggy I picked up as well. Not quite the "Solid Body" advertised but the floor boards are excellent, it runs and doesn't leak anything. Power everything, leather, air, cruise, tilt, and everything works, even the radio. The body issues aren't major. Picked that up for $1000 and didn't have to jump through any hoops to get it. Works for me.

Sorry about the bed, I only found one. I was a bit surprised in that the construction wasn't quite as rugged as I had expected, but it is by no means flimsy. It's just you look at an M715 and you think Tank. The flipside is the design is pretty darn simple and I think it could be easily reproduced, looks wise at least, and done a whole lot sturdier. Might give that a whirl some day but right now I have plenty of projects to keep me busy.

Thanks. The day after I dumped it off in my garage I came out to find a small puddle of miscellaneous liquids of varying vicosities accumulating under its nose. I have no real idea why hogsnot came to mind but it seemed fitting.

Just a small update to Hogs' progress. Not too much happening at the moment. First pic is yanking the bed and the second is yanking the cab, just in case it wasn't quite obvious enough. :) Last pic is the state of the frame at the moment. I sand blasted everything that will stay but bypassed what gets tossed and then painted it with some kind of Never Rust paint (yeah, right). I have some 8-lug axles I'm pulling to put under it and I'm working on getting the 715 bed spruced up a bit so I can set it in place to get an idea of what I'll need to modify to get it mounted.

I thought about doing the OD green thing but in my mind it's getting a bit old. Thought about flat black but I believe that's been done here as well, plus the paint droid at my local supplier said everybody and his brother has been buying the flat black for their hot rods. Given all that I think I just might go the Desert Sand route in the flat variety and see how that looks.

Niiice..my 68's under the knife too. Wish I coulda found a 715 bed (local) settling for a floppy thriftside. I dig the cab hoist :D I tried waving a 6 pack of beer at the crane operator behind my house but they ignored me so I just flipped it off by hand.

Hey is yours the manual steering box too? Not ross but a manual Saginaw? Looks like my setup which people love to say doesn't exist but does.

I kinda like that blue with the partially sanded red oxide primer. Afterall Hogsnot shouldn't be just one color, but a conglomeration of a not fully mixed pallet of colors.

It's a manual box and while I haven't paid REAL close attention to it I do remember it looking like a saginaw. I couldn't say for sure though. The plan is to dump it and mount a power saginaw box anyway and hopefully that isn't going to be too painful an operation.

Hehe. I'm not sure what was up with that. It's so oxidized you can rub it off with your finger. The last owner was a volunteer fireman so maybe that was a quick and dirty Fire Engine Red.

I'm not to sure I'm down with your idea for paint. Somehow it brings to mind the starving artist type standing back, tossing various buckets of paint at a canvas, and calling it art.

I think I'll go with the desert sand idea. :)

I'm SO envious you got a 715 bed and more impressive to me is that giant garage you have. I'd kill for something like that! My garage is 24x30 and FILLED with my sons equipment for working on auto bodies english wheel,
welders etc. I have to work in the dirt!!!

I got pretty lucky on the bed. The day I started looking I found it and only one other person was interested, but he didn't follow up and I got it.

The garage is 75x100 ft. divided into a 50 ft section and a 25 ft section. The 50x100 is what you see in the photos. I can fit about 12 vehicles in various stages of rebuild, have room enough to park a couple of drivers, and that still leaves room for my little tool room and an office. The 25 ft. section has room for about 2 builders, has a poor mans paint booth, a bathroom w/shower, and my "Man room". It's like a little studio apt. with a mini kitchen and bedroom/living room combo. Natural gas and compressed air everywhere, 400 amps of 240/3 phase, and I can pretty much do whatever I want. :) I figure if the wife ever decides she's had enough she can have the house as long as I get the garage!

The downside is the concrete is a bit on the rough side and it's a fairly humid building. Not too bad in the summer if I keep the doors open and let it ventilate but in the winter it holds moisture pretty good.
