I have been reading the threads on steering box problems. Here is what happens:
When I am traveling at any speed over 15 mph and I turn to the right, my steering becomes somewhat uncontrolable. My rig will actually start rocking like a boat. It feels like the front wheels a jerking back and forth. Now when I turn to the left it is not as bad. I have checked all of the joints and they are tight. My steering box leaks and I am thinking the bearings are bad in it. What do you guys think?

Is this locked in 4 wheel drive? I do not think your steering box will do that. Sounds more like you are locked in 4 X 4 or E-drive. I see in your sig you have 2 Cheros, what one is it happening to. Stuck in E-Drive would also do this.

CJeepman, It is on BR and I have a part time transfer case with hubs. So I know it is not that. Anything else you might think? I am going to get a used one from a yard this week end and try it. Oh yea I just replaced the bushings in the springs and it still does the wondering.

Have you checked to see if you have play in your ball joints?

Yes and there is none. This is really starting to get on my nerves and it is dangerous also!

It sounds to me like the U-joints in your steering knuckles are stiff and binding - this would be more evident when you were turning and they were being worked more. I would think that the problem would be surely something in the 4wd system, and not the steering box.

The 4 wheel drive system is not engaged at all. It has to be somewhere in the steering. I can feel it in the steering wheel when I turn. I have checked all joints, replaced the u joints, replaced ALL bearings, so last part is the steering box. This problem has been going on since I've owned BR. I'll see after this weekend. I am still open to suggestions.

spool valve in box controls fluid flow prolly sticking, this generally doesn't happen to boxes as much as rack and pinions but it does happen

Now that I think about it, the steering on the Chief is super easy. The steering on BR is not very user friendly.
