I just bought a 1979 J-10 with a 258. I drove it 150 miles home with no real problems. But I have been checking the coolant and it has been filling up the over flow. But is real low in the radiator. The gauge on the dash does not read that the motor is hot but it might not work. Should I check the thermostat. What is the easiest way to sand my rusty old jeep. I was thanking about sand blasting. The door jammes are being b*tchy to. They just don't won't to shut. I need help, any suggestions?

Sandblasting is the way to go to do a total restoration but that is up to you as for the coolant, unless the water boiling in the coolant jug I don't see a real problem.

is the seal on the radiator cap intact? Is is very old? it might just be as simple as a new rad cap.

did you meen you are filling the overflow? If the radiator keeps getting real low, something is wrong.Check very closely for leaks at hose clamps, water pump weep hole, heater core and all the usual suspects.if no prob found, check for white smoke on start up,I havnt heard of many head gasket probs, but never know.also if you suspect that pull plugs and take a look for contamination. If the rad is getting low,its gotta be going somewhere.

… With a good pressure cap a cooling system with out a working ‘overflow bottle’, will be about inch below the top when cool.
… A system with a working ‘overflow bottle’ should be full to the top with the catcher bottle about one third full when cool
