I thought the problem with the ticking sound may be with my alternator, but after fixing the spacing with the alternator, I had a friend look at my Jeep and he believes the problem is with an exhaust leak from the passenger side of the vehicle. Has anyone heard of this before? I have new headers coated by Jet-Hot and they have been installed with new performace gaskets. Do I need to Permaseal he gaskets?

You help is always appreciated!

Headers... yuck! (Exception soon to follow)

What bolts did you use to put the headers onto the block? If you used original ones or just grade 8's.. I can almost guarantee they backed out on you.

ARP makes a header bolt set that supposedly doesn't have to be adjusted. Sounds interesting and promising.

Headers are HIGH MAINTENENCE. You have to re-tighten them at least once every two weeks or you'll shake the bolts loose and get leaks.

Exhaust leaks can certainly be ticking sounds.
Have you re-torqued the bolts after running it awhile? You may have to do that a few times. Unless you have good headers(read: expensive) you'll prolly have leak and flange warpage probs forever :(
I've never used any but on the market now they have some new fangled bolts/locks or some such that folks say work pretty good(again if you have good headers). You might want to check in a shop and see about getting those?
