I need all the information any one has on spring over axles i have a 1980 J-10 Jeep pickup. It already had a four inch lift on it from trailmaster, i would like to see it much taller. I have been to riverbeast site and it has been helpful but would like to know if anyone has or knows step by srep instruction and if possible a list of parts.
Thank you, Adam

There is a TON of info buried in the tech forum. Just do a search for "SOA" and I am sure you will get most of what you need. Welcome aboard and good luck with your project!

SOA's are one of the most discussed projects on here. You may have to dig a bit, but most of the info is there.

Doing a SOA is generally cheaper than getting a set of custom springs built. You can buy a kit for the rear axle from Riverbeast here on the board and in the front, your main expense is the highsteer. You also maintain the nice flexy stock springs. Tall lift springs tend to be stiffer. You average 6-7 inches of lift while maintining a stock ride. It is mostly a matter of personal preference and what you have around to work with. I have 7 inches of lift(4 spring and 3 body) and 4 inches of fender trimming. At teh time I did this, I did not have the ability to do an SOA. Now I could do one and eventually will be doing one to run larger tires. If it works and it is safe, doesn't matter which route you go. It is all good! smile.gif

A good spring shop can match the factory spring rate with a greater arch giving you the best of both worlds. About 250.00 a pair which is close to the cost of a 4"-6" lift.

If you use a longer spring
you may not have to make a greate arch
And it will not be so stiff.
SOA will prevent the flexability of the springs
and limit the arch you can get (unless you want
your jeep in the skys.

Hey big blue, My rigs going to be a driver for my girls when they are old enough so I'm not lifting it.

But I do dream of the $300 project J10 for sale in the paper.... if so...
I'd plan a SOA and RiverBeast's kit.

It would leave minimal body cutting and a great place to start if I wasn't satisfied....

If I wanted more flex, tire size, height,.... I could then change springs, or cut, or lift body, or any combination.

Just figure what your minimum target height, minimum tires, minimum cutting would be.... then start there.

good comparison, most women with 325cc breast implants wish that they had 400cc implants 2 years later....

"325cc breast implants wish that they had 400cc implants 2 years later...."

Anything over 350cc looks tacky, and may tend to slosh around!

Where is the best place to get the highsteer parts & a drop pitman. I am in the process of doing a SOA, plus I already have a 3" susp. lift. I am also adding hyd. assist steering like rockwagon's.
