MotorCrap Options, please!

My '83 Wag still has the 2 bbl. carb. It's started backfiring recently and only gets 6-8 mpg. I had the carb rebuilt about 5000 miles ago.

I'm looking for cheap/easy options. It has 196,000 miles, but runs great, aside from oil leaks & carb problems. Can't really justify a 4 bbl. until a full rebuild.

A friend recently suggested adapting a Mopar 2 bbl. Holley, I think? Anybody out there tell me what carb to look for? Donor vehicles? Or other options I should consider?

back firing thru exhaust is over rich, mileage confirms that. i would check the float level. other than the carb , it may be a weak spark. good luck

If it's back firing you may have blown the powervalve which making it run ruch and give you bad gas milage as well.
