I know this topic has been up numerous times but I can't find it. Will a J20 power brake booster bolt in between the fire wall and the master cylinder? I would like to replace the booster on my j10 with one from a J20 to get a little more stopping power, but I am hoping that I do not have to swap the master cylinder and bleed the brakes as well.

As a follow on question, did the J20 after 1979 come standard with the duel diaphram booster?

from what i've heard it's a clean swap. i've even heard of people bringing in their single diaphragm boosters and passing them off as DD boosters for the core charge.

For about $40 you can convert over to a hydroboost setup and you WILL NOT be dissappointed!!!

The swap should be direct, just remember to keep the spacer that's between the firewall and the original booster - you'll have to reuse it. Changing the MC is not required. Can't help with the '79 and later question .

You can remove the booster without detaching the spacer from the firewall. From under the truck you should be able to loosen 2 of the 4 attach points from booster to spacer, and the other 2 you can get from on top. Beats twisting yourself up under the dash. I haven't actually done it that way (I did it the hard way of course) but others have.

Good luck!
