A question came up today about production numbers concerning the 78 J10 GE I bought. Does anyone have an idea how many J10 Golden Eagles were built with a 401 engine in 1978 specificly those that were painted colors other than brown? I've talked to several dealerships that have old timers still working there and none remember seeing one built with the option combination like the one I found. We were just curious if the J10 might be considered rare when we put it on Ebay or if it was only rare to this area.

Thanks!

I thought "RARE" was a requirement for an e-bay listing!

As far as I'm concerned every J10 is rare. A GE with a 401 even more so. ~20,000 J10s were made in 78 so even if one quarter of them were GEs and one quarter of those had all the options yours has... thats what 1,000 trucks? How likely is that? Odds are even less were produced like this. Moreover, how many of those are left? How many in this nice of condition? So, yeah, I'd call it a rare truck.

Remember, the unabashed automotive dictionary defines "RARE" as "undesirable when new and undesirable today" :p .

Just can't let a math problem go by unsolved.... ;)

20,000/4/4 = 5000/4 = 1250. 1,000 is pretty close.

Of course that formula assumes you've had a grade school math education and know that '/' is division.

My math education is strictly limited to what I can count on my 10 fangers. :p

I can't believe it...

Mathman, shame on you...

You based your eqation on an estimate. How can any math be correct.

All kidding aside, I would stand by the "rare" description. Who the heck will dispute any J10 GE w/401 being rare? ;) :D

Thanks for the input folks! Talked to the carb guy this afternoon and he said it should be finished by Wednesday. That will give me thru Saturday to test it out and double check everything then let the bidding begin! :D

My advise is to start the auction on a Friday evening in a 10 day auction. That way you will give your potential buyers 2 full weekends to find it on the bay...

And calc III and calc IV, and very painful memories they are!!

Just the fact it's a J-10, and the Golden Eagle package will make it "rare". The 401 only adds to the mix.

My one piece of advice is to hold for about 4 more weeks. Lots of folks will be getting their tax refunds back and we all know how those burn holes in our wallets.

The rare issue is my whole reason for asking the question. I've seen 'rare' labeled on just about every listing on Ebay but when it comes to my own auction I don't want to be accused of misleading. I've got several items that I plan to run thru Ebay so having good feedback is very important. If anyone that has sold vehicles on Ebay could drop me a PM I'm in need of a little help since this will be my first to sell.
