hose to nowhere!

I have a hose coming out the top of the front differential and heading back towards the transfer case, but that's where it stops. I could not find where it goes on any schematic I have.The end is hanging all chewed up. Can anybody tell me where it goes?

Sounds like the vent tube for the differential. It should, at least it does on mine, come up and end near the radiator.

Is it coming out of the very top of the cast part of the housing direct from a hose barb? If it is it's just a vent hose and should be routed up somewhere high.
Another possibilty on an 83-84 is the hose coming out of a round widget(vacuum motor)stuck into the diff cover? That's the vacuum hose for engaging the front axle. It should run to the vac switch on the dash that controls 2WD/4WD.

i asked my buddy the same thig yesterday
i was at his shop doing my plugs mine came down from y radator down to the front dif
i hadent a clue
he said its a vent it had some werd valve at the other end of it
