Ok, so I understand this ting is full time 4wd but under the dash I have this little "T" handle that says 4-Lo on it. When I put it nothing happens....anyone know the story on this??

Also can I get the Warn hubs for the front 44? I was wondering if I could unlock the front hubs if it would help with wear and tear, also if I were to break an axle although this front 44 is a monster compared to my to my little D30 in my Wrangler

What is the make and model of your rig???

4LO should give you more torque though it's gear reduction. You don't feel like you're moving slower? Does it even engage? What exactly do you mean by nothing happens?

What year is your vehicle? Most of the full time 4wd cases do not like you using hubs since they have viscous couplers that will die if you try to move them far with only the rear axle engaged. If it's a pre80 Qadratrac you can install a part time kit to convert it to 2WD when you want, and install hubs. I'm not sure about the 219 and 228 (right models guys?) New Process units. You could always swap to a NP 208 transfercase for part-time 4wd operation if you wanted to do so on a post-1980 rig.

Sorry, it's a 75 waggy with 360/4bbl/auto..
I understand 4Lo as I already have a lifter TJ (wrangler) but this handle is driving me nuts..it is hard to pull and no I don't feel as if I am in Lo..

The cable may be frozen up; see if it's moving the linkage on the reduction-box on the transfer-case (a cylindrical-looking piece sitting where the output shaft on an ordinary transfer-case would sit).

You can DEFINITELY feel when a borg-warner QT is in low-range.

Bob, the cable does pull out about 3 inches or so..I will get under the heep this weekend and see if something is frozen up under there...
So is there any advantages to getting a 2WD kit??

the part time kit will leave you with standard 2wd, 4hi, 4lo. You can get better street mileage, and like you said, disconnect the front axle should you have a problem on the trail with it.

You definitely have a broken low range cable. That is why Jeep went to the low range handle with a solid linkage in the post-75 QT vehicles.

Is there a "fix" for this, or where would I find a replacement cable?

Mile Marker makes the PT kit, but if you want to make the change for gas mileage improvements you'll be disappointed. I love my QT just the way it is, and if yours is functioning properly I would carefully weigh the benefits of both. Just my $.02. ;)

tj2kbob;
... The GM TH-400, BW-1339 was one of the best tuff combos produced and in stock condition were very successful in Baja racing. I am very happy with the performance of my BW-1339 for the last 18 years. Here are links that should answer most BW-1339 questions..

So I wouldn't see much increase in MPG with the PT kit?

No replacement cable available- I have seen them come up on ebay but only once or twice and none recently. You can either go with the later style linkage or replace with a different type of cable. I believe someone replaced their QT cable with a "PTO" cable which may be available from a truck parts store. BTW, I have an extra later style linkage for the low range I might think about selling. To install in your rig, you would have to cut a hole in the tranny hump to the right of the driver's seat.

Unlocking hubs alone will kill your central-differential clutches. Those hubs only work with the Part-time kit (really the full-time 4wd to 2wd conversion kit).

Not much increase in milage. You might get 1mpg or so. I believe you will save a bit on wear and tear, especially to the tires. The kit will run around $500 or more. I have had the kit since 1983 or so.

You should be able to easily convert the cable to the lever system. I, and others here have extra levers and linkages that you could use to convert to the lever setup.
