Now I'm going really crazy. Once again more than one manual is dangerous, they all contradict each other!!.

The haynes shows a different method to the Jeep Manual/Chilton/ descrip in the tech section and unless i am misunderstanding things they will adjust setup differently.

To understand tech section/jeep manual. Once nylon washer is removed and i push on the link aft which way should i be holding the actual linkage bellcrank towards front or back. Am I taking out slack untill the link just hits the pin on the throttle lever which is at solonoid energised idle?
I've read 4 or so slightly diff descrips and now cannot see the wood for the trees!!!

Plus what does raising the vehicle have to do with it??????????

all i did was play with it(move it alittle, drive it) till i was happy with how it shifted.

prolly not the politically correct method, but it worked smile.gif

mine is missing the nylon bushing, so i have it so there is about a 1/4" before the throttle hits it.i got confussed with the haynes, chiltons description as well lucky for me i had access to a gw that had never been touched to look at

The "correct" method is to hold the crank in the wide open position without the return spring on the shift linkage, but that was WAY off for me (TBI sits differently than the carb did), so I adjust till it's NOT shifting into 3rd at 20 mph (should be set around 30-35 AFAIC).

The wheels off the ground thing is to keep the bonehead who adjusts the linkage with the motor running from suing the publisher because they hit the park linkage while didling with the kickdown and shifted it into drive or reverse!

Thanks guys.
So Jeepjake to clarify when holding throttle wide open where should I hold the bell crank push it aft or let it come fwd until it hits resistance?

cheers
