heres the problem...
steering wheel is loose, there is about 1" of play when i push on the steering wheel at 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock and 1/2" at 9 o'clock.
I have the wheel off now and the column apart(turn sig and housing removed)
I cant see how to get any farther down the column to fix the looseness.
Am I missing something?

Pull the ignition switch, remove the star headed screws or may be phillips, slide cover off column, you will see a pin on each side of metal column, pins have a threaded center, use a dent puller and a small bolt(pioneer speaker grill bolts will fit) remove pins, use a flat screw driver and twist out tilt spring( it will be on lower side of shaft with a square hole) be careful not to bend dimmer switch rod if equipped, there will be 4 1/4 inch socket bolts that will be the cause of your problem tighten these then reverse the process. e-mail me at scotteac@yahoo.com if you still have problems.

I don't know if yours will have it, but on my 76 there is a joint right under the master cyl that brake fluid rots out. Hope that's not your problem, but worth a look.

I took those star bolts out and used thread locker on them!! That was 10 years ago, and no looseness since then.
