alright, while i am replacing some parts on my motor, i noticed this on my oil pan, did one of the PO's have too much time on their hands?

Nope. That's factory. Mine catches oil and keeps my pan from rusting out.
I don't have that. But, I don't know if the oil pan is still the original either...looks real old, though. I thought it looked like someone added a skid plate to protect it.

if i wanted to can i run some flat iron and weld it to theplate on the bottom then bend it so it is flush and drill a hole for the bolts, the i wouldnt have to worry about something hitting it and crushing it? or do you think that would cause more damage?

Yeap thats what my J-10 got. My M-715 has a plate too.

My suggestion is to leave it alone. It is a factory skid plate.
