i don't know exactly what they are called. but at the front of the jeep there are the two springs that have a cone shaped object in them. the latch goes over them and they compress to lock the hood. mine is bad and all the grease in the world is not gonna help. can i get these new?

I doubt you could get these new, but there's no reason you couldn't get a nice used pair. I'm sure lots of people on the board could hook you up. They don't really wear out all that much from what I've seen, they just get corroded or stuck.

There called the dovetail. What exactly happened to yours? Did they get bent somehow? If the springs are bad you could just get new springs . Or like Jason said get a good used set.

the pass side i good it is the driver's that is bad. over time the rear latches for the hood were a bit out of alignment. and that caused a funny wear to the dovetail. now the spring has a hard time goind up or down. i have to pull the hood release hard to let it go. i am afraid that i am gonna bust the cable. i have greased and turned the spring in multiple directions. nothing gets better
