Starting to gather my parts for my engine swap...the 258 is on here last legs. Anyone have any pics of Chevys in their rigs? Just curious about things like, AC housing clearance, exhaust, motor mounts, Etc. I do alot of fabricating so I'm not afraid of building my own mounts and such. Driveline consists of 350 Chevy, SM465 coupled to AMC 208 using GM 208 32 spline input hub and re-indexing case. I plan on using an electric fan and getting another core added to my rad.I want to run dual exhaust but am not sure yet how i'm going to do it with the fuel tank in the way.....anyone have a pic of their dual exhaust setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I plan on doing a write up on this swap to help other FSJ guys in the future.

I'd show you pics of mine, but the PO did a lousy job. :(

Actually, I'll take some pics anyways, and in your write-up, you can show them as how NOT to do the swap...

My motor mounts are poorly done, the tranny is in fine, but the T/C swap is lousy.

Motor mounts: Generic-type equipment mounts bolted to a bolt-on bracket on the motor.

T/C mounting: X-member out of Suburban WELDED(and Poorly arc-welded) to the frame.

Drivelines are Chevy as well, and have slip-yokes. All else is stock.

I'll probably E-mail you some pics by next week.

:D Check my web page out in my sig, the chevy motor mounts are on the AMC towers, but you'll need a 3 inch body lift in that location. can't remember offhand the routing of the exhaust, but there's a pic on the site. My 205 is lower, but in the same location as the stock T/C would've been. if you go the route of a body lift, just do what riverbeast did for a gas tank... a 33 gal Bronco tank in the spare tire location... that'll help with the routing of the exhaust! :D

Im just finishing up my GM conversion.

I used motor mounts from Advance adapters and bolted/welded them to the frame. I mounted the motor as far down and back as possible for better cg. Without the 4" lift, pumpkin to oil pan cleanance may have been a problem while offroading.

I did not do a body lift, and as you can see, the Ram Jet fits pretty well under the hood. Supposedly the Ram Jet intake is about the same higth as a normal carburator with air cleaner set up.

I have a 700R4 with the stock 4x4 output shaft, and used Advance adapters kit to adapt it to the 208.

I used the stock TC x memb and moved it back and down (but I will be having a custom one made with intregal skid plate for more ground clearance/protection.

The exhaust is the hard part, especially if you want to run headers. I never found a perfect set, after buying 3 sets, I used a set of shorties for a late model Camaro, but I had to cut and lay the driverside in more towards the block on the driverside to clean the pumpkin.

Dual exhaust, will be tough, I did 2.5s into a 3" with a flowmaster Y right next to the TC. But in my original plan was going to do the same thing but continue both the 2.5"s to two flowmasters offset from eachother (ie one farther forward, one behind) using the mufflers with offset inlet and outlets. Decided to make it easy and just use one 3" Flowmaster, and Im glad I did, cause its WAY LOUD, even with the delta flow muffler.

I cleared the heater easy, and will mount the stock AC pump above the passenger side valve cover using custom fabbed mounts. The altenator was mounted with a steel low mount from Hot Rod Air. The powersteering pump was rebuilt and put in a GM resevoir and a GM pulley installed and then installed in the stock location using mounts from March, (which didnt work to well).

I hope that all helped, email me if you have any more questions.
