We love pictures here at IFSJA. Lots and lots of pictures. That is why we are going to enforce rules about picture posting. Not everyone has high-speed or 20 inch monitors so please be courteous when you embed images in your posts.

IMAGE SIZE RULES:

The maximum image size allowed is 800 pixels wide.

AND

The maximum file size is 150kb.

Anything larger must be inserted as an external hyperlink to the image.

EMBEDDED IMAGES THAT ARE MORE THAN 800 PIXELS IN WIDTH AND 150KB IN SIZE WILL BE DELETED.

Images larger than 800 pixels wide cause the forum table to expand, requiring viewers to scroll back and forth to view the image and read the comments. This is extraordinarily annoying and may cause people to ignore your post.

Image file sizes greater than 150kb take longer to load (posting multiple pix with large file sizes in a single post will compound this problem) and will discourage people from viewing your post.

General internet etiquette is that images should be 640 to 720 pixels wide and 72 DPI. People often want to see larger images and that’s fine as long as they aren’t embedded in a post. Simply provide a hyperlink to larger images and those that are interested can click on it to view the larger image.

Please do not abuse the system by virtue of being either obtuse ("I view the Internet at 1600 x 1200 or with high-speed, it's not a problem for me...") or pig-headed ("It's my thread, so I'll post how I **** well please..."). Resizing images is easy and nobody is too lazy to click on a link to an external image.

RESIZING IMAGES:

There are numerous image resizing programs out there. Photoshop, Fireworks, Picture-It, IrfanView, Photo-Suite, etc. I personally use the freeware IrfanView. There are lots of other freeware programs out there. Please PM me with recommendations of free image resizing programs and I can include them here.

IMAGE HOSTING:

There are lots of places on-line you can host images for free. Some even have image resizing options in their features.

POSTING IMAGES:

Once your pictures are hosted, add it to your post by using the "Insert Image" buttonhttp://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/images/images_ifsja_2-5/editor/insertimage.gif in the buttons that appear right above the window where you type your post. Enter the link to your picture when prompted. When posting multiple pix ALWAYS insert a line between images using the <enter> key.

IMAGE HELP:

Feel free to post up in the Off Topic section if you need help or advice about hosting or posting images. As stated earlier, we love pix and we and want everyone to be able to post and view them.

PHOTOBUCKET USERS:

Photobucket has recently installed new features that allow you to easily resize your photos! It's nifty and easy to use! It also has other very cool features for editing and tweaking your photos.

Quick and easy photobucket tutorial!

Ok, quick photobucket guide. First, follow the instructions to create your account. You choose the free account, and when you're done you get your main album page. You can create several albums, but for now, just go to the upload pictures box in the center of the screen

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a22/DanHS/photobuckethowto-1.jpg

As you see, the box here has three browse buttons, for uploading three pics at a time. if you don't see this box, but a different one, click on old uploader to get this one. Where it says "image size 800x600 (options)", click options to select 800x600 if it doesn't already say that. Once you have that set, click browse, and the box for my pictures shows up, use the drop down menu to navigate to the folder where your pics are. Then select the pic you want, click on it and it should show up next to the browse button. You can select two other pics with the other two browse buttons. Then you click upload, and wait a minute for it to load the pics. Then you get this edit thing where you can fill in a name and description for the pics

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a22/DanHS/photobuckethowto2.jpg

Once you fill it in, you hit 'save and continue', you can just leave it blank and click on 'return to album' You'll see the pics in the album, where you get a bunch of different code options below them. click on the one that says "IMG code", it will then say 'copied'

then you just right click and paste in your post to put the pics in (it will look like
[ IMG]http://addressofphotobucketpicture.jpg[/IMG ]) and when you see the post it will be a pretty picture.

Folks, I'm getting more and more complaints on this. The maximum size image for this forum is 800 pixels wide. NO EXCEPTIONS! Anything exceeding this WILL BE DELETED!

Please people. It ain't rocket science. Resize your pix to 800x600 for the general discussion and off topic forums.
