that is my dilema. for those who dont know my newly acquired 67' Gladiator is gonna be a DD/trail rig. my dilema is wether or not to cut the foot and a half or so off of the frame right behind where the rear of the leaf spring mounts. im goin flat bed as well and my thinkin is that with it gone would be less to worrie about stuff hittin while wheelin and make it a more overall smaller rig. but im not sure if its gonna mke it look funky or not.

One vote for don't cut. You never know, you or a future owner might wnat to put a pickup box on later. It's a lot more work to put it back on then it is to cut it off.

I'm trying to picture it in my head and I think it might look a little odd, I guess a photochop may be in order. Also I'm thinking that regardless of resalue value, you may decide you like a regular bed, or that cutting up something that old and uncommon wasn't a great idea. It would kill the Jeep's value if it's in good shape now, but if it's old and rusty then I wouldn't worry about it. You could compromise a bit and just build a slightly narrow flatbed that doesn't hang over the frame at all, maybe even narrow the rear of the flatbed 'dovetail' style too.

as for the rust part, some ppl may think i belong in the looney bin for this but there is none.yea maybe ill just keep it and go woth a full size flat bed then the last 2 feet or so start to narow it.

I've seen trucks before where the flatbed narrows towards the back and they looked pretty cool. Imo I think it would look coolest with wooden stakesides as well, kinda retro looking and such.

it's your rig and your money. make two lists. one for all the reasons for cutting it, one for all the reasons not to. make the lists as complete as possible. Then give it some thought, set it aside, wait a week or so and then think it over agan, and then make your decision.

JMHO: If it is clean--rust free--I'd refrain from circumcizing it. It won't grow back and even if you or someone else has second thoughts and decides to try to replace it it'll still be a cobbled/grafted job. We all do the charltonhesston thing on our rigs sometimes, but situations change and the day may come your really need to cash out of it. "stuff" happens in our lives, jobs evaporate without warning, medical stuff happems, yanowhatimean. Cutting it WILL hurt you when/if that day happens.

but like I said its your rig.

i say cut it. I think a bobbed frame and bed looks awesome, and helps alot with the draggy drag rear end.

Cutting a J300/J3000 frame is a lot different then cutting
an easy to find J10 Chero/Wag frame. You don't see the 126" wheel base rigs all that much. Vertually never around here. I say leave it.

Besides, the more of these things that get cut up now, will just mean less for the future generations of Jeep lovers. Just look at all the poor 40's Willy's cars that are now gone because people cut them up and turned them into drag cars.

Here at the cross roads and I think one of two things will happen...
He will either cut it or he will not cut it.

I feel bad now. I scrapped a perfectly straight rustfree J300 frame when I moved 5 years ago.:hide: At least I offered it for free on this forum for 3 weeks-had no takers:( .

To cut or not or not to cut... that is the question. Personally, it is up to you... you own it, you drive it. It might be easier to find one that is in worse shape body wise and cut it, saving the long one as a tow rig

I am totally of the " it is yours, do what you want with it" camp.

But, if it is as desirable as some say, maybe offer it for sale/trade for a week or two and see if someone who wants to "save" it can, or if you end up with something already modded for it... Just a thought.

I was born with a sawzall in my hand, so I will of course say "CUT IT!" With that being said, it's yours so do what you like. Don't give in to people who tell you not to because you are somehow ruining the Jeep or the history of Jeep or because the vehicle is too rare etc...

at the least, don't chop it till you have the suspension parts ready to go in and the guy there with the mig warmed up.

Get ahead of yourself and you end up with yard art..AMHIK.

They aren't in demand.

Point in fact...

I am going to finally strip the cab off of a perfectly running 1967 J3000 And I can't find anyone that wants the underside of it.

It has a running AMC327 Working axles/wheels/tranny/Suspension etc... Hell, strap a milk crate on it and its a farm truck.

It's even the holy grail and has a 4bbl intake. and air conditioning.

and only one member has expressed slight interest in it.

All I get is "can I get the fan" or pulleys. (No offense)

They aren't in demand.

Just because you can't sell yours (or give it away or what ever) doesn't mean there aren't a ton of people that would love to have it. It just means that the people what want it can't afford it, don't have room for it, or are on the other side of the country. I personally know a bunch of people that would love to have yor J3000 (befor eit gets hacked, not so many after).

That's a matter of location! I'm looking for non-flat front springs personally.

I wouldn't hack it, buy a J truck for a beater.

But go ahead, that makes the surviors even more valuable.

I modifed a really nice Scrambler started on when I was 25 years old, took 8 years for build, been years since I finshed. Now I'm 40 and don't like the chick magnet look and thinking about returning back to stock. You don't know what you will like as you grow older.

Jpjeeper, if i had a place to store your motor where it wouldn't be in my way, I'd buy it just to have handy if/when needed.
