Are 1970 and later AMC V-8's use the superior dogleg exhaust ports. So your '87 has the Dogleg ports.

Thanks to you both. I am sitting on the fence as to reusing the existing manifolds, or getting a cheap ($99) set of Hedmann headers. The left manifold has to come off, cause I have two broken bolts to be replaced (see my other question regarding bolt lengths). I know the Hedmanns are prone to rusting, but I don't have the $500 to spend for better quality.

Most folks lean away from the Hedmans. They are cheap, but rust easy and are near impossible to get a straight sealing surface without some effort. I run them on mine and I guess I'm one of the lucky few that has no trouble with them sealing up. They do rust, but I've had no problems or leaks with mine so far and they've been hung for near two years now. As long as you check the torques about once a month (much more if you offroad much) you should be alright. On the other hand, if you're looking for the "maintenance free no rust" type of header, use your stock manifolds for now and save up for the costly set.
