Herc stopped running 50 miles west of Maumee, OH. It wasn't too spectacular, just stopped making power and shut off when I pulled over. Still cranks but doesn't do much else. I took the Comanche off the trailer and drove into town and met ricbee and tkiller13 with the parts I had for ricbee in the back of the MJ. They took me back to where Herc died and we used ricbee's J-10 and my U-Haul dolley to get Herc to Z&M. ricbee and Zack took my dolley to a U-Haul place for me. It doesn't look like much work when I type it, but I pretty much ruined ricbee and tkiller's day and Zack took the whole thing in stride.

Zack is letting me leave Herc in his parking lot for now. I was pretty sure when Herc died that it was timing. He said when he could he'd take a look at it and see what it needs. It could end up being something as simple as a distributer gear, but we had to keep going. I burned up 6 travel hours just getting Herc into town. It's most definately for sale now. Hopefully Zack will get a chance to look at it soon so I'll know what I'm selling. I'm not going to push him, he was cool enough to let me stash my dead Wag at his place. It'll happen when it happens. In the meantime I'm pressing on in the MJ. We're in Erie, PA. Home is so close I can taste it.

More to come...

Man that sucks, I was talkin to Chris over on IRC...sorry to hear that. Good people on this board as you know. Ive met Ric before too, good guy. I would have done the same if this happend through Illinois. Hope the best for you and hope Herc gets a good home, which if it sells here, he will.

Yeah, second on the good spot. The ol' boy made it back to the motherland and gave up. Should be a pretty easy sell in the area.

Sorry to hear about that. If it's there still in 2 weeks, maybe our meet anf greet will turn into a WOT.

Not that would be great IFSJA spirit  . Too bad I can't make it out there.

Ditto on picking the right place to "die" Withing spitting distance of Toledo.

Just don't let Zach take it out back with the rest of his collection, it may never be seen again  .

I'd be down for a meet and greet wot. Nice meeting corey and his family, too bad it was under those circumstances. Glad to help your family out corey. I hope the rest of your trip and flight across the pond is good. Thank you for your service in the AF.

Sounds like what my Wag did when it ate its distributer gears. Not too bad of a job for a weekend WOT.

We made it to the in-laws in upstate NY. The MJ did fine, but the heat doesn't work. I'll fix that tomorrow. It's been a cold day and a half of traveling. The real messed up thing is that U-Haul is saying I might owe them money now because I didn't return the tow dolley to the location in my contract. I paid for insurance so if I had destroyed the dolley or left it on the side of the road I would be covered, but since we brought it to a U-Haul location they say I might owe them some kind of fee. I'll work that out tomorrow.

As for the WOT, all I can say is you guys kick ***. The thing is if you get it running I still won't have the resources or time to get it back. It's up for grabs. I haven't heard anything from Zack, but it's only been a day, it's Sunday, and if he does mess with it it'll be on his time so I didn't expect to hear anything. I'm pretty sure it's the timing. I didn't get any backfiring so it could just be a distributer gear, but when you crank it it lopes and the compression feels uneven so the cam might not be turning. I'll delete the for sale thread I had going and start a new one once I know what's up with it. One way or the other I'd like it if one of you takes it home after the swap meet. The body is pretty clean and the interior is decent. Other than the timing issue the only trouble with the Jeep has been the oil leak. I think it was the timing cover leaking now, so replacing the timing set should take care of the oil leak too.

I guess the bottom line is I'm hoping to hear from Zack soon if he finds anything out. He offered to fix it for me, but the issue wasn't that I can't fix it. The issue is time. He could still fix it for one of you to drive home after the swap meet. I'm sure she'll find a good home, and she won't be my last. I'll keep hitting the forum too.

Well, as we just got 6 more inches of snow, I haven't looked at it yet. It's not going anywhere for a while, it is fine where it is. It is lighter one sticker ;)

that usually is a dizzy gear, but can also be an ignition control module. Couldn't have broken down at a better place though! Otherwise, you'd be stuck at some mechanic's shop and have no idea if they were telling the truth or not. Zack will probably have that puppy up and running in no time.

Thanks for the update, Zack.

It's not that I need a mechanic to fix it for me. It's that I was on the road and pressed for time. If I still had a garage and this happened at home I'd have it back on the road by now. I wouldn't let a mechanic tell me anything, I'd take it apart and see for myself. I'll trust what Zack says.
