I had the auto door lock thing going...bought a couple springs from shimniok and now the locks work like they are supposed to :D . Couldn't install them with the mechanism in the door, though. Had to remove the lock mechanism from the doors, then it was easy. First door took about an hour, but second door was done (removal of mechanism, install of spring, lube mechanism, reinstall) in about 1/2 hour.

Thanks for your efforts shimniok in making these springs. I bought 4 just in case I messed up the first 2...now I have spares

Thanks again. Great work.

So did these cure the auto lock problem and how do I get them?

Glad it worked out!!

The springs I'm making do prevent electric front door lock knobs from falling down on their own.

The way the lock mechanism works on the front doors (not the rear) for 1979+ is there is a lot of weight from the actuator rod pulling down on on the door lock (part of the latch mechanism). The door lock spring is the only thing that holds up the front door lock mechanism. The actuator rod is horizontal on the rear doors so autolocking isn't a problem there.

FWIW, I used 'em on my own 86 which solved the problem on both driver and passenger side.

Will let others chime in if desired. :)

The quick way to get them is to start here: http://tc.wagoneer.net/sblog/static.php?page=doorsprings

Electric?

Anyway, they worked GREAT!!! The previous owner had a stack of washers under the pin to prevent the auto lock syndrome. I got the springs and was surprised how small they are. Took a little time for a non-wrencher like me...but they sure work.

Great product and an easy fix!!

Hey, I just installed the Shimniok springs after he kindly sent the last of his sets. Let me tell you, these work perfect, just like OEM. The BJs springs were way too rigid and were so robust you would need a hydraulic actuator to get the lock up and down. Basically as good as garbage for me. THANKS! I am very excited about the working locks!!

Please start making them again!

Wow, I always like reading about something wrong with our products on the forum instead of an email...

We have sold over 500 sets of these door lock springs and the only issue we had was one customer with power door locks, they wouldn't work correctly. He checked everything out and he was only getting 8 volts to the door lock actuators -- which is pretty common -- so he fixed his door lock wiring, now getting a full 12 volts to the actuators and they work fine.

I did mine last month. I had the springs for a couple of years and finally got around to it. They fixed the door lock on the left side and, to my surprise, fixed the problem with the left side inside door handle not working. Before I had to roll down the left window and open the the door from the outside, now I can open the door from the inside again. Wonderfull. I bought two pair of left and right spring so I have a second pair left. Thanks Shimniok, they were well worth the money, time, and effort.

Not to imply there was anything wrong with the product. I'm sure its fine as every other product I have purchased from BJS, just saying it was worthless to my application as I needed a softer spring which I found somewhere else. Didn't think it warranted an email to the distributor/manufacturer...
