I've been runnin' hot here lately, I'm still trying to figure it out. I have been keeping up with some of the threads about this topic.
I have replaced the water pump (went south), thermostat(195F), radiator and fan clutch.
I'm replacing the lower radiator hose today, I'm hoping this os the culprit. It may be collapsing will see and I'll post back about it.
I have two questions:
1)Summit's got like two brands of tranny coolers: TCI and Flex-a-lite. The Flex has a fan built with it but isn't this for placement somewhere beside the front of the grille. I'm thinking that driving down the highway the forces would counteract each other. Fan pulling hot air while fresh air comes into vehicle. Or should I just opt for the regular? What brand?
2) Where would one go to get their AC condenser flushed. I'm thinking this may help also.
This engine was running fine before I blew my water pump.
Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
I may be seeing ya'll in Ouray if I can get all these problems straight.
Gotta go I have alot of work to do.

Ok so, everything was all good until you blew the waterpump, and it is now getting hotter than it should with all that new cooling gear???
How hot did it get when this happened?
Also are you sure the system is really full?? sometimes you can get weird air pockets in there if ya dont get em filled right. (my commanche's 4.0 was notorious for this being the "no rad cap, fill from the bottle" type system)
When ya filled up with new coolant, did ya sit and wait with the radiator cap off until the engine got warm enough for the thermostat to crack open (and then you see the flow in the radiator) sometimes the water level will go right down when this happens and make room for more coolant (air pockets)..
Just some idea's and questions.
I would say that a normal tranny cooler should be enough, get a big one cause most of the ones out there are actaully meant to be an auxilliary cooler (in addition to the cooling circuit that is in the radiator,if equipped).
...........
PS> forgot something.. Do you have a fan shroud on there?? if not ya need one.

hiyas cole, hey, check the junkyard. There's a ton of like new tranny coolers there for very little money. I got two of the stock jeep ones for 15.00 up here and no damage whatsoever.

Whew, it seems I've been runnin' all day.
First off thanks for the replies as always.
I got a can of worms on my hands.
ClarkGriswald the water pump failure was about a month or two ago when I was headed to a meet and greet. I drove for thirty minutes and stopped to get gas. There I noticed that the water pump was leaking excessively. Turned around and drove thirty min. back with the needle creeping up to "H", pulled over once to cool off at a truck stop.
Replaced everything mentioned above and thought it cured it but yesterday took it out for a 45 min. spin and the needle is creeping back.
My only thought is that the lower radiator hose is collapsing. It doesn't have a spring inside and the two auto stores that I went to get a replacement didn't think there would be a problem. I didn't replace it. And I haven't replaced it yet. I have found a replacement with a spring inside though. I do have a shroud, its cracked but functional. No air pockets to speak of. Coolant is full and at a 50/50 mix.
You think I ran to long with it hot? Did I damage something that I haven't thought of? I had the heater on the whole way home and it seemed to help alittle.
Oracle and Redneck Rebel 79, funny thing is I was at a FSJ junkyard yesterday before my truck began runnin' hot. Even looked at a tranny cooler but thought nuthin' of it :( . Guess I'll be going back. Thanks for mentioning it.
BTW, anybody want me to look for anything?
He's got about 60-75 rigs out there, mostly Wags.
I also have a oil pump re-build on my hands, u-joints and an electric fuel pump re-location, carb adjustment, and packing of the front wheel bearings. I still have some time!
Lemme know what ya'll think, I need recommendations and opinions please.

If you are not using A/C, the condensor makes a great tranny cooler. I had a blazer that would get a bit warm when loaded down. I flushed the condensor out and used it instead of the radiator cooler. Worked great, ran it like that for a couple of years. When I swap over to onboard air I'll set my wag up the same way.

Cole...call me we can lick this easy.....
If I remember.....you do not have a fan shroud....or do you.... This makes all the diffrence in the world here in 95 degree weather.
How hot is it actually getting?
Hey give me a buzz. Lets talk about it.
