Any one here that is familiar with the 727 transmission recognize this part?

I started a thread earlier where my 81 Wagoneer had no reverse and drive was a little lumpy. Today I dropped the transmission pan and found the above part in the bottom of the pan. Its a piece of metal approx 1.5" x 1.5" x .125" thick and is broken in half.

Also, the arm that the intermediate band adjustment screw attaches to just flops around and I suspect that this broken part somehow applies tension the the arm.

A couple of questions:

1. Can I replace this part with the transmission in the car? (Can I pull the valve body and reach up there and just put a new metal piece in?)

2. If I can fix/replace this part with the transmission still in the car what other parts (seals, gaskets or anything else) will I have to purchase.

3. Have I lost any other parts (springs, screws or anything else) when this part broke and came loose?

Any or all advice would be greatly appreciated.
(My apologies for this separate thread but I thought this would be the start of a new subect even though its the same car with the same problem).

Thanks again!!!!

that is the blade for the intermediate band you can replace it with the trans in the car at the most you will have to drop the valve body but on the 727 that is real easy it is self contained a trans shop/junk yard will have the part you need once you replace the part it will be a simple band adjustment and a pan gasket and filter

Replaced the blade today and I got my reverse back. Still have the grinding sound. I wonder if the Torque converter is shot? Maybe the pounding of the torque converter broke intermediate band blade?
