I saw this method of sale on a local board and thought that I would check out to see if there is interest in this type of sale here.

There are 65 "tickets" sold at $30.00 each, and each buyer gets a number. When all the tickets are sold, a winner is chosen with a random number generator by an independent party.

The winner gets a jeep for $30.00. So even if you need to ship it, it might not be too bad.

Here is the jeep I am interested in raffling off.

More info here.

Might want to check your local gambling laws as most places consider raffles 'gambling' and frown upon them if the laws prohibit gambling. Most 'raffles' for charity involve asking for a 'donation' and a ticket is provided in response to the donation - the rub is that there has to be a way for someone to obtain a ticket without making a donation to satisfy the "not gambling" definition. Been through this when a student organization for which I was faculty sponsor wanted to do a 'raffle' for a fund-raiser - they did it a year or two and gave up due to the red tape involved.

First off, nice truck! I do foresee one issue in your raffle idea. "When all the tickets are sold, a winner is chosen". Statute of limitations? What happens if only 1/2 the tickets sell? Refunds given? Money kept?

Just a few things to think about. Whichever route you choose, best of luck on the sale.

A bunch of naysayers, the lot of you. It's your truck, do with it what you want. I witnessed that other raffle go like hotcakes. It was a matter of days. Course, there was a little more money sunk into the XJ, but that being said it was still an XJ. A 1 in 65 chance of winning an SJ truck for $30. Sign me up for a couple. And for you betting folk, for a grand you'd have a 50% chance of winning. Of course for you non-betting people, just fork over 1950 and the truck's yours.

I would be REAL interested in seeing some more pics of that J Truck. And I'll probably be one of the few here, that would say I like the driveline choice in that truck.

If you have a moment and have a fair amount of interior, exterior and undercarraige pics, shoot me a PM, and I'll forward you my email address.

I don't think anyone personally cares one way or the other if he tries to raffle off his truck, they are just pointing out that there my be some serious unintended consequences from doing so due to gambling laws and the offering of such a raffle across state lines.
I personally don't know the laws, so I have no idea if it is "legal" or not.
When his brother/wife/uncle/mistress ... wins the truck, there might be some question as to the "fairness" of the raffle though.

BTW, I don't mean to imply that you are not on the up and up but all that it takes is one guy (you are dealing with strangers) to feel bad if he loses to make a stink, personally I have no issue, and hope it all works out.

All interesting points.

FWIW, I am also username waggin'ear (http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/member.php?u=1031) and have been on here since 2001? or so (lost password and could not get a new one for quite a while so signed up with a new username). I know that being a long-time member doesn't make me inherently trustworthy.

That's why I would have a third party with no interest (Mdill?) make the drawing.

I've actually got a fair amount of interest on the other site.

I thought that it would be cooler to go to an FSJ enthusiast from here.

Here is my .02 cents on this from expierience.First if it is a small kinda hush deal someone from here or the other site would have to turn you in then they would have to show you broke a law.I have done this a few times within a small group of people.I have also done it for non profit thats were I got the idea to do it on a few of my own.True it is considerd gambling and if you dont allow people to get a ticket for free then you are gambling. My arguement when it finally came about was ok then all the raffles that go on in the high schools for different things are gambling. Every time that the (unamed as to not make anyone mad)has a raffle for the purpose of paying a medical bill for somones family or other things just an example. All these would be against the law to.Nothing was ever done but the prosecutor that was involved told me that next time I wanted to raffle something off I needed to take a donation or sell something staight up.In your case since this is a long distance deal.I would take a picture of the truck and print it off 65 or 66 times to cover your costs on the ink. Then sell the pictures fro 30 dollars nothing against the law about that. Then as a bonus Only on IFSJA for 30 dollars one lucky person will when this offroad wonder but only if you act now and only for the lucky 66 people who purchase thes hand autographed pictures of this rig in action ACT NOW NOW NOW NOW.See nothing to it you didnt break the law your just giving away to one lucky buyerof your fine art a truck.
BTW count me in for a ticket Im a speeder so I gamble all the time.
Hope this helped you out and if it goes off like a rocket folks you will see one from me except Mine will be given away to one lucky member that Attends the MO.KS. IFSJA get together weekend that I am planning for May.Hey there is an idea a sighn up list for a weekend get together you dont have to drive to NC to go if you dont want.Put together a venue for a event you will be the trail leader. for this you will take a payment of 30 dollars to the first 65 people then you will stop selling tickets.when the weekend of the event comes up then hold the drawing for one of the people sighned up to win a free Pick up.WA LA you have it and I will buy a ticket weather I show up or not.Like I said if this goes off good which I will keep an eye on this thread. I will do this at the May get together I am planning at the Tuttle Creek ORV are on Tuttle Creek lake Manhatton ks.Only catch to mine will be you will have to be present to win at my event.

Because I'd hate to see anyone here get in hot water for simply having a good time with a sale (scroll to bottom of linked page):
