I recently replaced the 10 1/2" clutch/pressure plate behind my 360 with a new (not rebuilt) 11" clutch/pressure plate used behind a 401. I had the flywheel resurfaced and cleaned everything with Brakeclean before assembly. The engine is stock w/headers and a Predator carb and I use the Jeep as a Mud Drag vehicle. On my first launch off the line after the install I spun the clutch disc hard!! My old 10 1/2" clutch lasted 1 1/2 seasons doing the same type of racing before it gave up. The parts house will replace it but I'm not sure I want to go through the 4 hour R & R only to have the same problem happen again (possibly). Does anyone have any suggestions or explanation as to why the new clutch could have failed so quickly? I checked the throw-out bearing and it had a 1/4" of free play left so it wasn't bottoming out against the clutch fingers. Would I be better off putting the 10 1/2" clutch back in? Are the pressure plate pressures comparable between the 2 sizes? HELP!! I have a race this Saturday!!
