I just replace the front leafs in my truck with a new set. BTW if anyone in Northern Mass or Southern NH needs a source for custom springs look up Donovan in Manchester, NH they'll fab anything you need fairly cheap and fast. Anyway, while doing this I noticed that the cast pieces under the axle (mines SOA), manual calls them spring clips, the u-bolts pass through them, are getting pretty thin, rusted and beat up. Other than search the boneyard for some does anyone know of a source either new or used? I was thinking of that guy in Arizona with the 10 acres of sweeeeeet stuff!
Also after the springs went in I was just looking around underneath and noticed that the mount that hold the steering box to the frame has a huge crack in it, box is just floating around :eek Oh well add that to the list! I would definitely think that that's a boneyard piece.
Any input would be appreciated.
Marc

If you call or E-mail Espo's Springs 'n' THings ( www.espo.com (http://www.espo.com) ), and give them the dimensions of the required spring clips, they can probably get them for you.

Actually, re-reading your post, I think those are U-bolt plates, not spring clips...

I know that when flipping the U-bolts, you can use Dodge plates to replace them?

Sam,
The service manual calls them spring clips. Whatever... they are cast pices that mount UNDER the axle, the U-bolts face down ^. they have sort of a round profile to grasp the axle tube.

WHy don't you try using some thick, square-cut steel for the plate? Look at Kenall's site: http://www.home.earthlink.net/~kenns9/

And maybe that will give you an idea of how to fab them without R&R'ing another set.

Good idea GaWd, think I'll just flip the u-joints so they wrap right on the axles the find/fab a plate for the top. Now where to find the plate scratch,scratch........

Also, look here: http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/Forum2/HTML/003903.html

That article has some ideas about new plates, another poster said he just made his own out of flat steel.
