Has anybody swapped a dual diaphram brake booster from a 70s J20 into an 80s Wag? I understand that you have to change the master cylinder to the cast iron one but don't you then loose the quick take up feature on the aluminum master cylinder? I have searched the forum and have not found any talk about the swap (only to 70s Wags/Cherokees like Todd and Pat) to an 80s truck. It looks like the 80s J20s have the same booster as the Wags do. Any input would be appreciated.

Check with Retro93.

He put a realy cool Hydro boost in his Jeep.

It runs off the power steering pump.

My 87 had a dual diaphram with a plastic master cylinder on it, when I bought it. The 78 wag, and 79 chero that I have now, both have single diaphrams on them.

So it'd just be a matter of switching, I think.

Thanks guys! I think my current booster is on its way out and was thinking of a dual diaphram as a replacement. Can't have too much braking! A conversion to a hydroboost is a great idea (had that system on the diesel I had and I liked it) but I was not looking for another project at this time.

My understanding is that the post 79 systems are all (Wag/J10/J20) single diaphram and that the dual diaphram system used by the 70s J20s had a different master cylinder and that the two master cylinders are NOT interchangeable.

Don't take offense Lindel but are you sure that the Wag you had had the aluminum bodied master cylinder with the dual booster?? From what I have read in previous posts that won't work. Please enlighten me as I would love to get more brakes out of a booster "fix". Thanks!
