This guy comes to the 4x4 shop here and asks the owner, TY, "Can you build me a pissed-off trail buggy out of a Wagoneer?" Ty says, "It'll cost you." He said,"How much?" Ty works a estimate up for 18,000! The guys only reply was, "Can it be ready for Moab?"
I don't think he's a member here but I'll work on that.:D
I took some pics when it was on the lift and I will try to keep up with progress. Sorry about the quality of the pic's, i took them with my phone.

What you guys are seeing is week one of a 4 week build. On the schedule is a cage, bars on front bumper, rear tube bumper, gauges, B&M shifter, super 44HD kit, Klune V, Atlas, rebuilt the tranny, mods on the heads, winch, etc, etc ,etc.:D

what size tires? .... Yeh he is putting out some coin on the labor.I used to do some fabricating for people when I mud raced I charged 50 bucks an hour for fabricating and I was part time in my spare time.Ive seen shops in upwards of 75 to 100 dollars an hour.

The tires are 37x12.50x15 MTR'S. Those are the one mounted on it in the picture.

For that kind of coin I'd want d60 front and trick 4 link/coilovers... but I dig it and at least he's spendin it on an fsj and not another tj, I'll be watchin this keep the posts comin.

yeah... i would have been running coils all around for that kind of money.
i guess it would be cool to drop that kind of money without a second thought. then again, i like building my stuff on a budget, and then trying to wheel hard but keeping her together for the ride home. i like the challenge of not having much $$ to throw at my rig.

The price is right for having those items installed. But, 37's (looks like 37's)
with half ton axles?
And I REALLY dont like the rear suspension setup. Tad's flip kit is far superior. And The shackle reversal up front could have been done better. But maybe its not done. Those front spring mounts need to be tied together.

oh yeah and since money is a non-issue please buy custom/or make custom drag link/tie rods. Cutting stockers in half and sleeving them looks too redneck on a "atlas/klune v" type of a rig IMHO:thumbsup:

For that kind dough you'd think you'd get something better than cut-and-paste steering linkage!

$18,000 does not get you much these days if you are farming the work out. I am friends with several known builders who get a Jeep and a check for $75,000 to get started. Rich kids annd their toys.
I am building a crewcab M715 and have the engine, bodywork, drivetrain, axles, chassis, etc. all sorted out and at the minimum, I'll spend at least $25,000 more on it before it is running.

Well Ty, the shop owner, didn't make the deadline but I was able to snap a few pics of the cool tranny mount he made!

Also look what I found at Canyon Truck hiding under a rotting waggy......
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd218/COLOJEEPGUY2K/Trailwaggyswappics2.jpg
The guy wanted a thin tank that wouldn't go into the cabin area. So I looked around a little and found this. $40.00...not to bad for the thick made tank. It's even been lined with a gray coating so the inside is very clean.
The customer dropped $18,000 and the shop owner didn't meet his deadline?
Brilliant

Yeah, the owner of the waggy's schedule changed and he wasn't able to go to Moab. Good for Ty,the shop owner.

Like the tranny mount! Grey coating is probably "Tank Seal" you used to be able to pick it up at motorcycle shops. I am sure that it has been discontinued becase some eco freak decided that it caused cancer in nite crawlers or some thing.

If you have the time, skills and tools to do your own work $18K will go a long ways like you pointed out. That's why I learned/am learning to do my own work(my next purchase is going to be a tube bender and cold cut saw). Paying others to do it for you will make money disappear fast.
