Hey all I am planning on rewiring my rig and figured that I would use painless wirings 18 circuit fuse box during the wiring job. I plan on adding a lot of things and can use the extra fuses etc. anyway have any of you used this or rewired your rrigs? what areas are problem areas in the wiring that I can upgrade while I am under there? (I already know about the wiring for the rear lights that runs outside the cab and I am planning on putting it inside actually.) what other problem areas exist? the wiring is getting kind of old and I figure that by replacing charred, frayed and wiring that has abrasions I will be saving myself a lot of trouble during my restoration of this truck. (rewiring everyhthing is going to be a headache but should prevent a lot of headaches for me in the future. right?

My only suggestion is not to lay the wiring out on the missus's carpet with all possible terminations, i.e. alt., starter, lights, wiper motors...you get the point. ;)
Take your time and don't forget to wrap the wire you will never see with some sort of loom or wrapping tape to prevent chasing down those electrical demons. Wiring to the rear that runs through or under panels is a good example.
Pick a comfortable spot for the fuse panel, my last one was behind the glovebox door because I never really used it anyway. Anyplace you won't kick the panel or have a large bundle of wires under your feet.

Ty-Rap EVERY termination (Temp sensors, Oil pressure, Ignition to Solenoid, Start to Solenoid, Neutral Safety Switch to solenoid, Coil Pos/Neg, Choke,...getting the picture?
Now when you remove your harness by un-plugging it from the firewall and cutting it out of the engine bay....everything is labeled that had a termination.
Lay this out on a plywood sheet and overlay the painless wiring harness on top to insure that you at least have all of the connections...or add any connections that you might need, just route the extra wires alongside the existing harness.
You can use 6-inch finishing nails to separate the harness branches.
Pretty simple if you take three days to do it.
