I'm getting around to bolting on the Performer intake onto my '78's 360, and the first order of business is cleaning the thing up. It's somewhat oxidized, plus grungy and stained.
I'm looking for some kind of aluminum cleaner that I can just brush on and rinse off, which will dissolve the grease and oxidation, leaving me with a shiny new manifold. It also has to be available to the consumer (none of those "Oh, we've got a 55-gallon drum of stuff in our nuclear plant that works wonders!").
Aluminum wheel cleaner doesn't do much of anything for getting it clean. I'm not up for polishing it with a manifold polishing kit from Eastwood; it's just going to get muddy anyway. In fact, I might just paint it, but I want to make a clean surface for the paint to stick to.
