I was looking at the Arpil 08 edition of Hot Rod magazine the other day, and noticed a Cherokee Panel pictured on page 91. The photo was taken in the pits at a drag strip back in the 60's if I remember correctly. It belonged to a Jeep dealer (Brian Chuchua) in California.
Personally I haven't seen to many Cherokee panels but they do look good even in stock form. Does anyone here on the forum have a Cherokee panel?

It was not a Cherokee, but a Wagoneer Panel.
Cherokees didn't exist in the 60's.

That is a sweet looking panel. It looks like it's 2wd as I don't see any hubs in the front.
That's why I love looking through old magazines and watching old tv shows and movies. For me it's more about the settings and background than the main interest itself.

You know I started to write Wagoneer but couldn't remember for sure. Sorry my mistake! It's still cool looking.

Did they just weld the rear doors shut on a wagoneer panel? or did the stamp the whole piece at the same time?

The panels were stamped factory the waggys had the panels punch out. it also had barn doors. it was the only 2 door wagoneer everbuilt & actually the body style that later became the Cherokee.
Mine however is a 1980 Cherokee Laredo that I put panels in & retrode back into a mid 60 style. Retro resto mod if you will.

You could order a 'normal' Wagoneer with 2 doors until 1968, not just the panel wagon. Have any pictures or additional details on how you paneled off your window? Sounds interesting...

I did not do a build on it but it was easy just cut 14 ga. & tack welded & then beaded it in. I'll get more pics if you want send me your email. It has sliders on it now.
