OK I just got my first fsj 1987 J10 360 and I work for a dodge dealership so I pulled up a vehicle information report from the vin of my truck and I found a sales code AGJ that says my truck has a "indy 500 special edition group" but I have been unable to figure out exactly what this means. If anybody has ever heard of this please let me know. Also shows a p99 paint code that says "unreleased paint in a special situation"

since it was not a stellar year for pace cars & trucks that year ( LeBeron pace car & Dakota pace truck).:( Maybe they used the j10 to handle the real work at the track, you know recovery and fire work. I can't imagine a v6 Dakota lifting a wrecked car off the track. Wasn't that also the year that Chrysler bought AMC? Maybe they were trying to get some cheap advertising.

I would bet that AGJ was a sales code from a later year/make/model
, not for your Jeep. JOhn

current color is blue and it seems to be original. agj is a code that came by vin for this truck

Welcome aboard! Don't get the wrong impression by some questioning your post. We've seen almost everything related to FSJs here.....almost [keyword]. I recently bought a 78 J10 that had a unique package and recieved emails telling me I was full of it until I posted the original build sheet that came with the truck. For the vast majority this is a awesome site so any questions you have feel free to ask because there is no such thing as a dumb or noob question. Once again welcome. :D

Welcome aboard fellow Colorado boy. As far as your truck it's nice but I've never heard of that type of build on a J-10.......

.....so I say use this until you find out more

pretty much any option list from chrysler that is pre '92 is gonna come out weird. if it does exist it would be cool to see. I have a feeling some of the digits in your vin, or some of your option codes match some of those for the indy500 dodge truck. it was a 96 I think.

Seems to be sitting a little low but not too worn out. kali's truck appears to have a lift. If you look up posts from Chomanator you will see pics of the low mileage near mint Golden Eagle he bought a few weeks ago and it doesn't sit very high.

Just a thought on the original subject... The GM dealer that I do business with buys a few Silverados each year that were specially outfitted for use by the pit crews and track officials at the Indy 500. It's a promotional thing that Chevy does. The trucks aren't marked with any special badges. Their just fully loaded 3/4 ton 4x4's. They usually only have a few thousand miles on them and get sold as "program" vehicles. My guess is that this J truck was a similar deal between AMC and the Indy 500.

You have to remember these trucks came from the era where lowriders were cool. :D The folks at www.bjsoffroad.com (http://www.bjsoffroad.com) have a cure for it and are great folks to work with. (brownie point) If they all were built like Kali's from the factory then I would imagine they would still be trying to keep up with the demand.

Here's my lowrider:

Pretty sure Jeep had the lowest center of gravity and tallest ground clearance of the full size 4x4 truck market through most the 60s & 70s.

Dangit Scott... That is purty!

Sorry guys but the "low rider" truck is one of the best attributes I think a Jeep truck has.
It is easy to work out of and still does pretty well off-road. For me it is a good combination by all means.
The only downside I can see is the rough ride from the springs.
I think the 3/4 ton trucks by the big three are not very user friendly.

You are definatly right about that. My 92' Dodge 250 w/Cummins sits very high in factory form. The bed is a little hard to work out/off of, getting in and out of the cab requires the use of the hoop steps for people under 5'10" and it rides incredibly rough. All with the same suspension design as our FSJ's.

I remember the Jeep truck ads showing how they sat lower, yet had more ground clearance than the competition.
