Kicking around the idea of using a Holley 502-20S fuel injection system on my AMC 360. Anyone have one? Currently I have a Edelbrock 600cfm preformer 4 bbl carb.
Thanks

I had one my jeep and I didn't really like it. It had good throttle response and felt like it had more power. I didn't think that it was worth the money though. The Holley 950-20S is a much better system. It really depends on what you are looking for though. I am working on a system using a holley TBI and megasquirt. I will be control the spark also. The price tag for this project probably won't turn out to be much more than a complete holley system (just a lot more work). If you are interested I can give you more information/update you with what I am doing. I could also answer most questions about the 502-20S system.

I hope it's a digital system. I hear they're better than the analog ones. I had an old analog that I never got to run right. Went with a Howell kit and I'm a happy camper.

The carb is only about 3 years old. It runs good, but with current axle gearing cruise rpm is pretty low (I am going to downsize tires, since I need new ones anyway and it is cheaper than regearing) I am thinking that the FI system will get better milage at lower rpms. I think I might go with the Holley 950 system, I found a laptop I can borrow to calibrate. Will look at the Howell systems too. I am not expecting any huge gains, but every little bit helps. Plus a fuel injected 1971 engine is just a cool idea.

You will only gain 1-2mpg over a properly tuned carb by going to TBI. I like mine. Only problem I have had is the Holley TPS. Replaced it with a GM TPS and haven't had any problems.

I have one on a 360 I have in one of my CJs and have been real happy with it. I've had it on for about 5 years with no problems. I mainly installed it for drivabillity on extreme angles and bouncing. Works flawlessly for that.
Not sure about mileage increase...I use this one almost exclusively for rock crawling. I sort of doubt it's much better though. Start ups/warm ups are much easier than with a carb.
I don't have the closed loop system on mine and it has always seemed to run pretty rich...fine with me though.
It will run upside down now!...don't ask me how I know:D

Do you know the part number or the vehicle year and model for the GM TPS?
I'm getting close to installing the Holley kit I bought used and if the TPS is bad I'd rather replace it with a more reliable bit.

I picked up 2 from the junk yard off of early 90's Caddys w/ 4.5(IIRC). You will have to move the wires in the connector (switch the grey and blue I think). It has been a few years since I did this. You just have to compare mounting/direction of rotation and orientation (the Caddy one points up). A used GM sensor will be far better that a new Holley. I bought my system used also.

I have had the Holley Commander 950 for over 2 years and its a great system. I would not plan on a loaner laptop for the setting up, unless its a long term loan. You will find the urge to tweek an the system every now and then. I will also add, if your serious - wait a while because they are coming out with a lower cost and more features system. Hankrod

What is "a while". I am looking at doing some engine/tranny work late april/early may, and FI will be part of it (unless my funds disappear)

Well, shoot. If it's from an early '90s Caddy with the 4.9, I can get one of those new for like $35.
Thanks. I'll have to take a look at the Holley part first.
