I have decided to go with the TSM caliper so I can have an emergency brake and I am wondering which I should go with:

1. El Dorado Caliper
http://www.tsmmfg.com/3121.htm
2. Lrg GM Caliper
http://www.tsmmfg.com/3120.htm

I spoke with a rep at TSM and he said the difference is in the bracket on the Lrg Gm caliper for the emergency brake. He also suggested they are essentially the same caliper and will mount in the same location. I am using the Great Lakes brake bracket.

Any insight would be helpful.

When I was planning the 14-bolt swap into my Explorer, I found the ElDorado brake sets for a lot less on E-bay.

Are those the same caliper? I have always been under the impression you had to acquire the specific El Dorado caliper from the 78-79 year in order to have an emergency brake.

Interesting.

IIRC:
The later ones use a smaller mounting bolt pattern. As long as you have the right mounts for the caliper, you are good to go?

You guys are probably right .. I didn't end up going with the Eldorado way so I'm not 100% sure (ended up making a transfer case brake from a motorcycle's hydraulic rear caliper and master cyl).

You are looking for the 76-78 Eldo caliper. 79-85 is a smaller caliper and will not work. I found both in a yard and grought them home for comparison.......

the 76-78 calipers are pricey!!!

You are correct about the years on the el dorado caliper, I don't know what I was thinking. I have decided to get the GM style instead because of the bracket.

:hijack: I bought the later year el dorado calipers:banghead: so I ended up not using them for my 14 bolt and went with waggy front calipers...but does anyone know if there are 6 on 5.5" rotors out there that have a thinner rotor which will work with these later model el dorado calipers. I'm thinking of doing a disc swap on an fsj amc20. If I could use these calipers(which do have an e-brake) than they wouldn't go to waste.

any ideas? toyotas?
