Oil P/U Screen Assembly

I've looked in my Hayne's, Chilton's and MR253 and can't find the answer. How far off the bottom of the pan should my oil p/u be? Right now it has a 1/2" clearance, is that too much?

I've heard guys that build engines measure to get 1/4" clearance.
