Cherokee 81-258 I6-TH400-NP205 - 39.5x15.5x15
Front drive shaft setup!
The Dana 60F pinion points 10 degrees up at normal ride height - the caster is negative 5 degrees. http://4x4ph.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif
The NP 205 flange (the flange shaft points 6 degrees up)

The standard drive shaft Chevy Front Saginaw CV with 1310 yoke. http://4x4ph.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/thumbdown.gif

This drive shaft has max 22 degree working angle and looks like this in my Cherokee (AT MAX ANGLE AND TOO SHORT):
http://4x4ph.com/forum/style_images/1/img-resized.png Reduced: 62% of original size [ 1024 x 768 ] - Click to view full image
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/SubicJeep/Drive%20shaft/IMG_1123.jpg
The calculated max angle at full front axle drop is 35 degrees................................
Solutions:
1. Change Dana 60 yoke to a 1410 (28 degrees) ($140)
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/SubicJeep/Drive%20shaft/dana603-1410f.jpg
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/SubicJeep/Drive%20shaft/dana6041410r.jpg
1A. Change shaft to;
Saginaw type hybrid CV Long Spline conversion flange to 40 degree Spicer Type hybrid CV --
40 degree maximum, 20 degree operating as a rear drive shaft 25 degrees for front drive shaft with manual locks.
.
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/SubicJeep/Drive%20shaft/Drive_shaft_high_angle_and_long_spl.jpgthis is the CV used and it has spicer type U-joints and it fits your saginaw flange.
1 B. Go for the ultimate THE 45 DEGREES 2 TON DRIVE SHAFT
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/SubicJeep/Drive%20shaft/2ton45degree.jpgThe toughest ! 5" DIAMETER
The 2 TON CV is the most cost effective in the market for tough high performance four wheeling. It can be used
as a daily driver with smooth performance at 35 degrees continuous with no problem and providing the highest torque rating in the
market..
Conclusion:
1A. Reasonable price but limited strength ($350)
1B. Expensive but strong and can run at constant 35 degrees http://4x4ph.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/toast.gif ($700)

If you're going to use the driveshaft that's in the picture, the first thing you need to do is grind off those tabs that are hitting the straps. That will gain you alot of angle.

I was thinking to go for the 2 ton 45 degree Bad Boy both front and rear then I need to change yokes front and rear to 1410 U bolt type. (Dana 60 / GM 14 bolt) The main reason for this is that I do not need to worry about the drive shafts, its a overkill for the 258, but knowing myself the 258 will be swapped for a bigger V8 engine Chevy 350-500 range its just a question about time and money.:banghead: Somebody said time is money, just takes longer time for me  ...........
The 39.5" Swamper's with fully locked drive train do need some heavy duty stuff... and it will not come cheap  I probably have to :hide: this from my wife or she :sawzall:
Presently I am running a modified Chevy Front Saginaw CV with 1350 yoke at rear just to be able to move my Baby Cherokee around.

i wouldnt get anything from driveshaft superstore. ive got shafts from them before, and unless you have tons of time to wait, they keep b/sing you about your parts. thay have decent products but thier customer service sucks teh Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley.
as for the shafts, get what you think will hold up to your abuse. i had to go w/ high angle driveline 3" .250wall shafts to hold up to my abuse. expensive but will handle the rockwells and bbc. and i tend to get stupid w/ the skinny pedal from time to time.

I send a e-mail to Tom Woods but no reply yet, Tom Woods has a nice web page but when he does not read the e-mail its his loss and there is no indication what the cost for their products are.
From driveshaftsuperstore I got a reply to my e-mail immediately , their web page is good but difficult to navigate:drivin: but they gives prices to their products.:D
Jess at Highangle has a good reputation at Pirate but the web page sucks no indication of prices.
Looking at web pages, driveshaftsuperstore is best, all products with prices and reply to e-mails. Now that does not say much, the hard evidence comes when the final deal is done. I do not have tons of time I want my drive shafts now  thats why I am prepared to pay FedEx for my shipment.. thats expensive.
I ordered my 4 link parts from Ballistic and their products are 100% good, but late delivery and missing left hand locknut's (not delivered) makes them nothing special just one in the bunch. They could be the best if enough time and effort is given to detail. ISO9004 certification could probably help them.
If this is a fact that I have to wait a longtime for my drive shaft to be shipped i.e. when a third of the cost is freight then no wonder that the Chinese are taking over.

They dont list prices because you cannot price a custom shaft really. Because everybody has different needs. They will build it exactly ow you want. The main different for you is being in the phillipines, you have to worry about shipping. Which is going to be a killer.

well be prepared to be disappointed. I’ve ordered from them twice (about 2 years apart) and both of the times the messed up my order and took over 1 month longer than they told me. one of the times the package was delivered back to them and sat on a shelf for 2 weeks.
now maybe i just caught them on a bad day, but when they lie about shipping and give you the runaround, that’s what i don’t like. but im sure that people have had good experiences w/ them, just not me.

Try https://www.barnes4wd.com/index.php he doesn't have driveshafts but Ive been buying brackets and hangers and other parts. He is a Fabricator and when you dont have the time he can get it to you quick. He very reasonable on prices I think myself.I tend to look at the time money and cost of supplies and he can get me most of it for not much more than it cost's me to build it.I just bought a 14 bolt cahnge over from him and it was here quick and was very reasonable and 10 on quality.I give him   and a third if I had it.As far as drive shafts well thats a deep subject .He He you get it well deep subject.

As far as drive shafts well thats a deep subject.
Well it is it is deep and I appreciate all your responses.
I got an answer from Tom Woods today:
Lars:
Thank you for writing.
I hope you've received the auto responder message explaining my absence ......
I did not receive any automated responce...
I just called them regarding the BAMF
http://www.4xshaft.com/images/bamf42cv1.jpg
This is not recommended for street use as it is used in agricultural machinery originally, thats not a problem in the front driveshaft...
As i have same flanges on front and rear of my NP205 and the shafts are just 2 inches different in length I want them interchangeable. The problem is that the front shaft has to be able to work off road at 35 degree max angle. I do not have the luxury to transport my Cherokee it needs to be driven to my destination and back. This reduces my options drastically do you agree?
They dont list prices because you cannot price a custom shaft really.
It's not that difficult the parts are off the shelf and if not then list modification costs. I takes some effort though to design the web page.
Why is everybody insisting on a phone call? (Fax is so outdated today, multi billion business are carried out by e-mail.)
To order a drive shaft by phone sounds like a bad idea to me, when the details are completed on paper then a call is OK to verify last minute concerns.
Maybe I am too critical, but I feel frustrated at the moment.....:banghead:

so you want to order someting custom with out talking to the person thats going to make it? i dont quite follow the logic. a simple call to any of the people that youve mentioned will net you a quote and probable ETA.
seem like it would be easiest to just call around.

This I think is the minimum criteria / info / basis to have a meaningful telephone conversation on. That is if you get the right person to talk to who actually read your mail :D :
Custom Driveshaft Qoute Sheet for front and rear shafts
Year of vehicle: Jeep Cherokee 1981 FSJ
Size of tire: 39.5x15.5x15 TSL Swamper's

Rear slope 15 degrees pinion points up same.
Transfer case angle (motor slope):

Differential angle front application: Front 10 degrees up
Is your suspension 4 link or leaf spring? Rear 4 link / Front leaf springs

U-joint: Want to change front and rear yokes to 1410 U bolt type:

I want long splines 7-10 inches on slip yoke.
If possible I would like 2 Ton CV joints?
Make note above if you have a flange mount application and measure flange to flange of flange to center of U-joint:
From front flange to front pinion bolt end 35 inches
Rear Flange to center pinion shaft end 37 3/4 inches
FYI:
The drive train comes from GM and at the rear there is modified GM Saginaw front shaft see picture. IMG_1114
Front shaft see IMG_1123 in the picture the drive shaft is the standard GM Saginaw drive shaft at max angle and too short.
The quote is from my message to High Angle Driveline.
Lets see how they respond.

So, you are looking for a company that is willing to act like it is as hard as you are trying to make it..
Oh, and you dont want them to use the phone, because in your world, internet is better.. No matter that a company like Tom Woods has TONS of experiance at making quaility drive shafts and has found that a phone call is the best way (for them)...
Am I on the right track here?

Am I on the right track here?
Maybe you are right!
Maybe its too much work to reply to emails..;)
Its not difficult a drive shaft is a simple thing when you bone it down but maybe I expect too much.
I do not doubt that Tom Woods has a lot of experience and is very good at what they do.
I actually called them but the person I talked to had no idea about may e-mail I sent them. I got the info that the BAMF is for off road use only and what it costs.. so it did not solve my "problems"...drive shaft.
I had high hopes for the 2 ton /45 degree CV but as pointed out by Desert Beast, unreliability in delivery got my guard up.
There is a few things to keep in mind I do live in the Philippines - thats a 12-14 hour time differance. Calling is expensive I can afford it............
The other thing is shipping, both in cost and time. I am trying to avoid any mistakes as they will be very costly...
I am calculating that I have to spend about 2500$ including freight in addition to this Philippine tax 12% to get my HD shafts. Yes I am very serious about this and very stubborn:cool:
Well I have to wait until tonight to remedy myself and call...:D

I got an answer promptly by e-mail from Jess at High Angle Driveline , its short but to the point. I have e-mailed him back with some additional questions to clarify some matters. Looks good!
I have researched drive shafts at Pirate 4x4 it's not my place to repost comments from Pirate 4x4 and I do not even want to post my summary of the comments, but it is definitively worth a look if you are in process of getting new drive shafts.
To live up this post here is todays finds:

It seems you've already made up your mind on who to use, but I also recommend Brad Barnes. I know him & his wife, have wheeled with them, bought from him, and can furnish dozens of other satisfied customers of his. His service and prices simply are top notch. He designs & builds alot of custom stuff, cages, driveshafts, bumpers, suspensions, frames - you name it. He can't advertise his prices on 4x4 parts either because the prices are so low.
You should see his buggy - front half is TJ frame, Sammi front end, Chevy 4.3, axles are D44 centers with D60 outers expertly grafted on. Watching him wheel it is truly amazing.
