Hey All,
Just noticed a little red sticker on the dist. as I was removing the intake. All that is on it is Mallory Unilite. Anyone know much about these. I'm sure it was for a HEI conversion. Should I have grabbed anything else that goes with this setup. Didn't look like any other aftermarket parts where there, I kinda did a glance over the engine compartment.

Mallory Unilite Optical LED Distributor for AMC-360's.
Features an optical infrared Light Emitting Diode which is used to replace the (Points/Electronic) triggers used before.
Inside the distributor there will be a Module which houses the LED and the signal amplifying circuitry, which also acts as an "Electronic Ignition Unit".
Coupled with an appropriate Coil, you can completely do away with the OEM Jeep ignition box.
I have had one on my Jeep for about 10 years now, seems to be very reliable and simple to troubleshoot.
Just stick a credit card to disrupt the LED signal path to and measure the voltage at the Coil's negative terminal post to see if it is grounding and opening up properly.

They are OK as far as I have heard, it is a good
idea to carry a spair module, as you are not going
to find one on short notice in some B.F.E. town
on short notice. They came in a few flavors and
what you want is one with a vacumn advance on it
for street use, better than points, not much if
any better than the Motocrap unit, which you can
find parts for in any small town.

The coil looked like it was stock. should I have also picked it up?
It is better than stock?
It is the series 47 with vacuum advance

The only real differance in them is they used
their own pickup and trigger module set up
they may have also used a real bearing (don't
rememer for sure) to support the shaft rather
than just the stock bushing, I would not swap
a Motocrap for one, but I would swap a point
dizzy to one, the only downside is the avaliblity
of parts if something craps out. From old memory
the modules were pretty sensitve to ESD and or
voltage spikes such as alternator field dumps ,
which could cause a module failure after a jump
start or Jump starting some one else.

Good score. ;) I used to run one of these units.
It was very dependable for me. Also being it works off a LED and the signal amplifying circuitry it is difficult for water or dust
to cause it not to get the spark around.
I will attempt to contact you concerning the Laredo emblems shorty, maybe tomorrow via Phone.
Sorry for delay.
Hay I just scored on a pair of OEM/jeep optional original Marchal 850GT Driving lights with covers new in the box. I am happy I now have three so when I move back over to the rollbar it will have the factory original look. Not sure when I will do it but I am looking forward to it. Need to sell my camper.
Good luck I will be in touch.
