View Full Version : New PS Pump has slight leak at pressure fitting

Doesn't look like it's leaking from where the hose enters the fitting (it's dry) but next to it where the fitting enters the pump. The new pump didn't come with a rubber o-ring, and the old fitting didn't have one either. Some people have suggested teflon tape, but I don't really want to mess around with a 5000lb. GW if the power steering goes out because of that.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Craig

There is an o-ring in the pump against the sheet metal resevoir but I can't remember if there should be one on the fitting that screws into the pump. Make shure that the pump fitting is tight.

it's tight, I even removed the fitting that came with the pump and tried my old one....same thing.

uhmmn, iirc, there is sposed to be an o-ring on the hose nipple where it attaches to the pump and the box on the later model systems.

I recently replaced the same pressure line to my 79 Chero. It did not come with an O ring. Is that correct. BTW, lining that bottom connection up is tricky, my hand looked like a claw when I was done.

the o-rings appeared sometime in the early 80s iirc, my 83 wag had them. for sure the 84 did.

You won't want to drive with that leaking, it'll get onto your hot motor, and Whoosh! I know, that's what killed my Waggy...

I had an o-ring that went on the end of the hose, and there was one that was on the pressure valve, about in the middle, but at the back where the pressure valve comes in contact with the reservoir, there wasn't.
