Hey, I am finally ready to get rid of the leaky cheapo headers on my 88 GW, who has the best price on them and what is the part number. Does the crossover pipe hang down much, it seems like the drivers side header comes down a lot more than the ones I am running now. I have managed to get everything that was hanging down under my jeep tucked up out of the way and I would like to keep the clearance. This might be just the pics I have looked at though, any thoughts.
Thanks,
Dustin

The headers are designed to go under a passenger side drop, I think, so, yes they do hang down a bit. I should hope it would not be a problem unless you are in the habit of smacking the front driveshaft on things. They will go over the top of a drivers side drop but the loop to clear an earlier FSJ is still there.

For a link to pics of the Thorley Headers. I haven't installed mine yet but the driver's side comes straight down underneath the motor and under the oil pan. The driver's side comes down and points back like a normal header.
The part number on mine was 616-Y I think and Summit can get them for you. They have great customer service also. 1-800-230-3030

Here are pics of my thorley's and what I had to do for the driveshaft... and it didn't really work...

Keep in mind, Jasonthomasfrance has installed a 4" lift. There is no need to go through that for a stock rig, or if you have a drivers side drop.
If I get ambitious, I'll snap a couple of pics of what I had done after my lift.

Lift or not, that driver's side header looks like it was designed for a different truck. It doesn't look even close to being right. Why point the header straight at the ground when the pipe needs to go towards the rear of the truck. Seems to me the driver's side header should look like the passenger side header.

If you don't make the drivers side that way, you can't get to the catalytic converter. These are emissions legal headers, that's why.

Oh, well, if laws bother you then I see it. I try not to pay too much attention to those things.

I do agree that the driver's header is a bit of a problem. It also comes under the oil pan a little too much... I can't even drop the pan down! The flange is one inch too far under the pan, and not low enough...
But yes, you don't have to get creative with routing the Y-pipe if you don't have a lift...
