Pinging Won't Stop!

Have experienced pinging under mild acceleration from a standing start. Have timing retarded so much it runs like crap. Just did the TFI upgrade, thinking it might help (I was going to do it anyway) but no improvement. My EGR is and has always been disconnected, so something else is causing this. Also have new carb, starts and idles perfectly, no hint of a miss, vacuum is steady. Any ideas? Can the Duraspark module degrade? Anything within the dizzy causing this?

Did you reset the timing after the TFI? Try that and back it off (advance it) until your pinging starts, then retard a bit... worked for me... I'm at about 11 degrees BTDC

The EGR being disconnected is likely your problem. It actually helps stop pinging when it is functioning properly,
