Well generally with 4wd, you have open differencialsin front and back. so you can get stuck spinning one front tire,a nd one rear tire. To be sure all 4 tires get traction all the time, you need some form of locker. But lockers hav their downsides. If you spun both rear tires, it means they had equal traction, but up front one tire had more traction then the other. So the one with less traction was the one spinning.

Normal operation.
most trucks (even 4X4s) have open differentials in the front and rear axles. If one tire has no traction, thats the one that gets the power. To overcome this, a traction adding differential would need to be installed. You could get a limited slip. They generally use some sort of clutch system inside to get both axle shafts to drive at the same time while letting them spin at different speeds during cornering.
you could use a locker that positively locks the axles shafts together. Even if one is in mid-air, the other will still drive you. With that much difference in traction, a limited slip will send most of the power to the tire in the air, but the tire on the ground will still get some power. A locker still will allow decent cornering behavior by unlocking during cornering. A locker's action is more harsh, and takes some getting used to, but the work great for traction.
For a daily driver, a good limited slip would be the way to go. One in back and one in front. With the front axle engaged, your steering will be affected by the limited slip (it will fight you a bit). A locker in front is not recommended.
